We’ve all been there where we are growing in our faith and everything is going great. Then a spiritual relapse happens that makes you backslide into sin and go back to the world.

Below are the 10 major dangers of being a backsliding Christian that will help you repent of your backsliding before it’s too late.

1. Might Lead You Into Apostasy.

Going into apostasy where you are no longer responsive to the Spirit’s call and completely no longer care about the things of God is among the greatest dangers of backsliding.

An apostate as defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary is simply a person who refuses to continue to follow, obey or recognize a religious faith.

And in this case, the Christian faith which you will now mock when you reach this stage where you might reach a point of no return which is why Hebrews 3:12 warns every believer in Christ Jesus not to have a sinful unbelieving heart that causes one to turn away from the Lord.

2. Loss Of Joy & Peace.

Losing the joy and peace that only our saviour Jesus Christ can give not as the world gives (John 14:27) that truly satisfies a human soul is also among the dangers of backsliding.

If you backside or turn away from the Lord Jesus Christ and back into sin, you will feel great sorrow, guilt and shame because of the sin you have committed.

You may even feel condemned by God which will make you realize that you’ve violated God’s Word and your conscience will bother you until you confess your sin and repent. The joy that comes with salvation will no longer be in your life anymore.

3. Unanswered Prayers.

Another great danger of backsliding is that your prayers won’t be answered since when your backside and go back into sin, you become separated from God because of the sin that’s in your life.

We are told in Psalms 66:18 God does not answer the prayers of sinners because He can’t hear them as sin has separated a backslider from God.

You must remember that God only listens to the prayers of the righteous (1 Peter 3:12). This is because the righteous are not separated from the Lord Jesus Christ and have His presence in their lives.

4. You Will Go Deeper Into Sin.

Each time you backside and indulge in sin, it becomes easier to do it again and each time you choose to willfully disobey God, it becomes easier to do it again.

If you continue in a sinful lifestyle, you may find yourself backsliding into worse sins than before. James 1:15 warns us, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

And this willful sinning is what will make you have a seared conscience as Paul mentioned in 1 Timothy 4:1-4 where you are now no longer sensitive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit which is why sinning at this point will become comfortable for you without feeling any guilt.

5.  Prone To Satan’s Deceptions.

When you backslide and fall from grace, you will also be prone to Satan’s deceptions who is roaring like a lion seeking whom he may devour at any moment (1 Peter 5:8).

The reason for this is because backsliding causes the presence and protection of the Lord to leave you which makes you open to Satan’s deceptive schemes.

And this explains why a backslider is deceived in their sinful backslidden state and sees no wrong in their evil doings which is why when you try to correct them, they will justify themselves as to why they fell into sin.

6. Makes You Comfortable In Sin.

Backsliding can make you become comfortable in sin which will make you think that sin is not that bad after all, thereby making you compromise your Christian standard.

This is why many believers or backslidden Christians are comfortable with drinking beer, smoking, clubbing, etc. They told themselves they could stop whenever they wanted to but the devil knew better than them that once they start it’ll be difficult for them to stop.

And this will be because your heart has become calloused by sin such that you no longer feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit when you sin and that’s why Hebrews 3:13 warns about the deceitfulness of sin which hardens the heart.

7. Loss Of Salvation.

One of the greatest dangers of backsliding is that you might lose your salvation and end up in hellfire if you don’t repent of your backsliding and return to our Lord Jesus Christ.

You must remember that salvation is the only thing that brings eternal life upon a repentant sinner and later on makes one enter heaven when all is said and done.

This is why 2 Timothy 2:11,12 warns every believer that if they deny the Lord Jesus Christ in their backsliding or turning away from Him, He will also deny them when He returns which is why you must not backside when you decide to follow Christ Jesus if you don’t want to be denied as well.

8. Danger Of Hellfire.

If your backside or allow compromise in your Christian life, you will also be in danger of going to hellfire if you die in your sinful backslidden condition.

There are countless examples of those who died in their sinful backslidden state and went to hellfire both in the old testament and the new treatment. One such example is Saul in the old testament who ended up killing myself due to disobeying the Lord (1 Samuel 31:1-6).

And in the new testament, we see that Judas Iscariot who was with the Lord Jesus Christ all the time also committed suicide instead of repenting when he betrayed Christ (Matthews 27:3-5). You as well might end up in hellfire if you don’t repent of your backsliding.

9. Makes You Abuse God’s Grace.

Another great danger of backsliding is that Backsliding can make you abuse God’s grace; it gives a bad report about the grace of God to unbelievers who haven’t yet embraced the Christian faith.

This results in making them think that God’s grace is cheap and carefree when it was never cheap or carefree for our Lord Jesus Christ who paid for it with His precious blood (1 Pet 1:19).

You see, some people try to use God’s grace as an excuse for their sin saying: “God knows I am not perfect and a sinner when in fact God tells us that we must be holy just as He’s holy because He has not called us unto uncleanness (1 Peter 1:16).

10. Disqualifies You From Heaven.

Last but not least, backsliding will ultimately disqualify you from entering heaven when all is said and done if you die in your sinful backslidden stated

Remember, Jesus Christ said in Matthews 5:8 that only those with a pure heart will finally enter heaven and see God which will be wonderful indeed.

But if you are a backslider who died in your sinful backslidden state, you will be forever banished from heaven and hellfire a place of devils and wicked people will be your home which will be the greatest tragedy indeed that will ever happen to you for all eternity.
