In this post today, you are going to discover the importance of Godly wisdom in your Christian life as a believer so that you can learn to live wisely and not waste your life.
The Bible in the Old Testament especially in the book of Proverbs in various verses has countlessly showed us the importance of godly wisdom if we want to live lives we will be proud of and not regret in the end.
It is why we are told in Proverbs 4:7 that godly wisdom is a principle thing, which is why we must strive to get it at all costs, and in all our getting, we need to get understanding as well that comes from the Lord.
Kings Solomon who wrote the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes with all the wealth he had understood the importance of having godly wisdom that is why he said in Proverbs 8:11 that wisdom is better than rubies or riches.
Godly wisdom that comes from God through His son Jesus Christ is different from worldly wisdom, which is devilish and sensual in nature. As Christians, we must seek godly biblical wisdom from above that is pure and leads none astray.
If you are endued by godly wisdom from above, you are going to live a life you will be proud of looking back and you won’t end up wasting your life and be filled with regrets and what ifs when all is said and done with your earthly life.
With that said, let’s look at the importance of godly wisdom in your life as a Christian that will help you become a wise person and not a fool who thinks they will live forever.
What Is Godly Wisdom?
The simple definition of godly divine wisdom is that it’s simply the wisdom that comes from God. It’s the pure divine wisdom that James 3:17 talks about which is peaceable, gentle, easy to entreat, and full of good fruits without hypocrisy.
There is a difference between wisdom and knowledge. Wisdom is the understanding of God’s will for your life. Knowledge is what you know about God’s will for your life.
God’s Word makes it clear that wisdom comes from God (Proverbs 1:7). It is not something that we can earn by our own effort or merit. It is a gift from God, which He gives to those who ask for it (James 1:5).
The Bible also teaches that wisdom consists of four parts: first, understanding (Psalm 111:10); second, discretion (Proverbs 16:18); third, discernment (Proverbs 2:6); and fourth, prudence (Proverbs 2:16).
This means that wisdom involves more than just knowledge but also an understanding of how to apply the knowledge practically as well as understanding how God wants us to live our lives.
Why Is Godly Wisdom Important?
Godly wisdom is one of the most important components of godliness. It is not only a gift from God but also an essential part of your spiritual growth. The life of wisdom is a life that is spent pursuing truth and learning as much as possible about God and His plans for us.
Godly wisdom brings peace and understanding to our lives, allowing us to make decisions and choices with confidence and clarity. It helps us live with grace, compassion, forgiveness, patience, humility, and love toward others.
The more we encounter God’s Word, the more we become like Him by growing in His likeness (2 Timothy 3:16). But how can this be accomplished? How do we grow in our knowledge of God’s Word?
What does it take to gain godly wisdom so that we can understand His will for our lives? Reading God’s word is the answer to gaining godly wisdom that will help us live meaningful and purposeful lives that are full of joy and happiness.
Godly Wisdom Protects Us From Our Folly.
Godly wisdom is a gift from God. It is the ability to think and make decisions using the mind, the heart, and the will in harmony with one another. The Bible says that God gives us wisdom to protect us from our own foolishness (Ecclesiastes 7:24).
For us to be able to use godly wisdom, we must be able to discern what is good and what is bad, wise and unwise, true and false which comes from the knowledge of the scriptures.
We must also develop a set of values that are consistent with these scriptural truths. Only then can we apply these principles in our daily lives so that we can live according to God’s standards.
If you lack godly wisdom and understanding, you will be led astray by the folly of your own heart and the corrupt wisdom of this world. You must understand that acquiring knowledge is not enough as it means nothing if you can’t make sense of it.
Proverbs 16:22,23 tells us that prudence is the fountain of life but folly or foolishness brings punishment to fools and this is what will happen to you if you lack godly wisdom to help you live prudently and wisely.
Godly wisdom also allows us as believers to see through deception and recognize lies when they are told to us or by others. It helps us avoid making decisions based on emotions rather than reason or experience.
When we make decisions based on our emotions instead of our intellect, it usually results in negative outcomes for others and ourselves around us.

Godly Wisdom Helps Us Live Wisely.
Godly wisdom is a precious commodity. It is the fruit of the Holy Spirit and a gift from God. It is an ability to discern what is right, what is wrong, and how to do things properly.
Also, biblical wisdom helps us make good decisions in our lives and it protects us from making poor ones. It helps us see clearly the things that matter most so that we can focus on those things and ignore things that distract us.
Godly wisdom also helps us make wise choices concerning our lives so that we don’t end up making life choices we end up regretting in the end through our foolish decisions.
Without godly wisdom and understanding in your life, you will end up making foolish life decisions that will pave the way to your own destruction and ruin.
Remember, Proverbs 14:12 tells us that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end are ways of death which will happen if you rely on your own human wisdom and understanding in making important life choices.
God’s word is full of many examples of godly wisdom being used by God’s people throughout history (e.g., Esther 1:1-4; Nehemiah 2:3-5; Daniel 1:17; Luke 2:19).
The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has given us a spirit, not of fear but power and love and self-control. This was his way of saying that we should use godly wisdom rather than our human wisdom or reasoning when making decisions in life.
Godly Wisdom Helps Us Have Eternal Life.
The other reason why godly wisdom is important is that it’s what enables us to have salvation and eternal life that will finally enable us to spend eternity with God in heaven when we die.
And this eternal life can only come about when we have the knowledge of the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ and why He had to die for our sins so that we don’t perish.
The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing God’s word. The apostle Paul further tells us in verses 13 and 14 of that same chapter that if we call upon the name of the Lord, we will be saved.
Moreover, he says in verse 14 that how can we call on the Lord whom we don’t know or haven’t believed? This clearly shows that we need to hear God’s word to have the knowledge of salvation so that we can be saved.
If we don’t have the knowledge of what Christ Jesus did on the cross, we will then won’t know how to get saved from sin and have the eternal life that Jesus Christ talks about in John 6:47.
Remember, that we are all saved by grace through faith and not our works as Ephesians 2:8,9 tells us, and this faith that enables us to believe the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation and eternal life comes from hearing God’s word that has this good news of salvation.
Daniel 12:2,3 tells us all of us who sleep in the dust after death we will resurrect to everlasting life or everlasting shame and contempt depending on how we lived our earthly lives.
Verse 3 tells us that those who are wise by accepting Christ as their Lord and savior in their lives and turn many to righteousness will shine like stars forever and ever in heaven. May that be you in Jesus’ name.

Glad that this post blessed you. May the Lord bless you with all the godly wisdom you need to live for His glory. God bless.
I appreciated how you described wisdom and connected it to our everyday life. I was doing a bible study when I found it and the other women appreciated a few of the thoughts I told them. I liked the thoughts on how important our whole person is when we need wisdom: “Godly wisdom helps us avoid making decisions based on emotions rather than reason or experience.” Also this one: Godly wisdom is the ability to think and make decisions using the mind, the heart, and the will in harmony with one another.” Thanks again for your thoughts!
Glad you enjoyed the post, dear beloved sister in the Lord. Indeed godly wisdom is vital in our lives as it’s what will help us from making costly mistakes in all areas of our lives we will regret later and in eternity. God bless.
