How To Pray For An Evil Person [Who’s Hurt You Badly?]

If you want to know how to pray for an evil person or evil friends who are making your life a living hell on earth, then this post is for you, which will help you do just that.

In today’s world, evil people who are making our lives difficult surround us. It’s hard to pray for them because we don’t know what to say or how to pray. But you can still pray for them.

Very often, when evil people do us badly, we often want to pray prayers of revenge so that God does to them what they have done to us due to our carnal nature that loves revenge.

But, that’s not the way to go. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ tells us in Luke 6:27-36 that we must love our enemies by doing good to them and praying for them so that God changes their hearts and does not destroy them.

With that said, let’s find out how to pray for an evil person or an evil friend the way God wants us to with references to bible verses in both the old testament and the new testament and not the way our carnal and sinful flesh wants us to.

5 Ways Of Praying For An Evil Person.

Below are the 5 effective ways you can pray for an evil person so that they can change their evil ways and come to God in repentance.

  • Pray For Their Repentance.
  • Pray For God To Change Their Hearts.
  • Pray For Their Salvation.
  • Pray For God To Teach Them A Lesson.
  • Pray For God To Forgive Them.

1. Pray For Their Repentance.

Praying for an evil person can be a tricky thing to do. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of praying for a specific person to change on our terms, which can lead us down the wrong path.

First and foremost, we must remember that God is sovereign and that He alone has control over our lives. We should not place any expectations on ourselves or anyone else that is not God’s responsibility.

If you are praying for someone who has done something truly evil, then you should be praying for their repentance. The Bible says that “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

If they are truly repentant, then their sins will be forgiven, even if it has caused pain or hardship in their life. But if they refuse to repent, then by all means leave it all to God to sort it out.

Pray that God will do what He’s purposed in their lives according to His will. If He has to punish them for their evil, then so be it, especially if they refuse to repent but that must not be your main prayer point.

2. Pray For God To Change Their Hearts.

One of the reasons why evil people do evil or hurtful things to others is because of the nature of their hearts, which is inherently evil. So, a prayer to God for their hearts to change can go a long way in changing them for the better.

We are told in Jeremiah 17:9 that the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked above all things and who can know it? You need to understand that only God knows the heart of every person on earth.

Evil people do evil to others because their hearts are inherently evil which is why our Lord Jesus Christ tells us in Mark 7:21-23 that it’s out of a person’s heart where all evil comes from.

Henceforth, your prayer for an evil person or evil friend is that God changes and transforms their hearts so that they stop doing evil and start practicing righteousness and doing good to others.

It’s only when evil people are given a new heart the Lord promises in Ezekiel 36:26 after experiencing the new birth, will they quit doing evil. As long as evil people have their old sinful hearts, they will continue doing evil with impunity.

3. Pray For Their Salvation.

Praying for the salvation of an evil person who’s doing hurtful things to you and making your life a living hell here on earth is one of the best things you can do for them.

I am sure and I know that at certain times in your life, you find yourself surrounded by bad people be it bad friends, evil family members, evil co-workers, etc. who try to make your life a living hell on earth for no reason.

In such a situation, it’s very easy to find yourself praying dangerous prayers so that God destroys them by applying the eye for an eye principle found in Deuteronomy 19:21.

You need to understand that only God has the power to save people from sin and evil. So praying. For God to destroy evil people by fire isn’t the best thing to do nor is it the loving thing to do.

Your job is to pray that God grants them salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ so that they get saved from their sins that can damn them in hell for eternity if they don’t cease doing evil which is worse than all the evil they do to you in your lifetime.

4. Pray For God To Teach Them A Lesson.

The other effective prayer you can pray for evil people is that God teaches them a lesson and shows them that what there are doing to others is not good.

Yes, God can teach an evil person a great lesson they will never forget in their lives if they don’t cease oppressing others with their evil deeds to others by making such a person have a taste of their own medicine.

Remember, Romans 12:19 tells us that vengeance belongs to the Lord and that He will repay the evil people have done against you in due time but that doesn’t mean you pray dangerous prayers for God to destroy them with fire from heaven.

Your prayer can be in the direction that the Lord punishes that wicked man or wicked woman for their wickedness so that peradventure such people come to their senses and realize that what they are doing is bad and repent.

Sometimes, wicked people need to be punished and be taught a lesson by the Lord for them to stop doing evil to others. In such situations, God brings such people to justice by punishing them with various punishments, which can be misfortunes, calamities, sicknesses, etc.

5. Pray For God To Forgive Them.

Last but not least, you can pray for God to forgive evil people in your life for the evil they have done but that doesn’t mean they won’t reap what they have sown.

Galatians 6:7 is clear that we all reap what we saw which implies the same way evil people treat you is the exact same way they will be treated by others as well as what goes around, comes around.

If wicked people make your life difficult, the Lord will make life a living hell for them, too so that they can understand how it feels to mistreat others.

This can be clearly seen in the case of King David who did evil to Uriah by killing him and then sleeping with his wife while he was sent to battle. For this, the Lord had to punish Kind David for the evil he did as He’s not a respecter of persons as we see in 2 Samuel 12:1-15.

So, yes, you can pray to Jesus Christ to forgive the evil people in your life who have hurt you terribly by their evil but they will still have to face some form of justice for the evil they’ve done to you as it was the case for Kind David though he had repented of his sin.

Remember that only God can change the heart of an evil person, which is why you must not try to change them in your own strength and wisdom but live that to God to sort out.
