A pure heart is a beautiful gift from God and this post will look at the 12 major qualities of a pure heart that has been cleansed and washed by the blood of the Lamb.
The bible talks about the qualities of a good heart in many bible verses that characterizes a person whose heart has been transformed and renewed by Christ.
With that said, let’s look at the 12 qualities of a pure heart that one will have if they have been given a new heart if they become truly born again with the new birth experience.
12 Qualities Of A Pure Heart.
- Has Pure Desires.
- Loves God.
- Filled With Agape love.
- Filled With The Holy Spirit.
- Filled With Humility.
- Loves To Serve The Lord.
- Good To Others.
- Selfless.
- Free From Guilt.

- Honors God.
- Free From Sin.
1. Has Pure Desires.
Having pure desires of righteousness is one of the major qualities of a pure heart that has been purified and cleansed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ that makes one whiter than snow.
Naturally, our heart has evil desires that come with the sinful nature we are all born with which is the major reason why we find it easy to do evil rather than good.
But when the Lord gives you a new heart He promises in Ezekiel 36:26, you will no longer have the evil desires you once had that made you sin but you will instead have new desires that are holy and righteous that will make you desire to follow after righteousness.
2. Loves God.
A person with a pure heart will love God with all their heart, soul, might, and mind, which is the first golden commandment we have been given as Deuteronomy 6:5 tells us in the Old Testament.
Implying that if you have a clean heart that has been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb, you will not have any idols in your heart that will try to compete with the love you have for God.
The reason why most people have idols in their lives is that their hearts are not pure yet and need to be cleansed from idols so that they can love God with a perfect heart.
3. Filled With Agape love.
Agape love 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 talks about that can only come from God will also one of the qualities that your heart will show if it’s pure and transformed by Jesus Christ.
It’s this agape love the Lord Jesus Christ imparts in every truly born-again Christian that enables one to truly and selfless love others without any selfish motives that came with natural human love.
If your heart is not pure, you can never truly love others selflessly and unconditionally the way God wants you to without any selfish motives natural human love inherently has.

4. Filled With The Holy Spirit.
A pure heart that has been cleansed and washed by the blood of the Lamb will also have the Holy Spirit indwelling in there that will help that person be free from all evil desires that naturally come with our sinful and carnal heart we are all born with.
The Holy Spirit is the one responsible for renewing and regenerating our hearts when we experience the new birth in Christ so that they can have pure and holy desires that conform to God’s word (Titus 3:5).
On the contrary, if you have an impure heart defiled by sin, you won’t be filled by the Holy Spirit that is why you will have evil and sinful desires you will obey due to the carnal nature of your impure heart that has not been regenerated yet by God’s Spirit.

5. Filled With Humility.
A pure heart is also humble and contrite that seeks to please God above all else (Isaiah 66:2). It is tender and sensitive to God’s leading and receptive to His correction.
Implying that the natural pride that comes with the sinful and impure heart we are born with will no longer be there as that pride has been completely washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ.
This is why if you have a purified heart that is Christ-like, you will have the meekness and gentleness of Christ in you which are among the most important 9 fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22, 23 talks about that makes one humble and not haughty.
6. Loves To Serve The Lord.
Another characteristic of a pure heart is that it loves to serve God in every good work; it serves as if it were serving Him directly in every good deed that it does for others because of its love for God and others.
A pure-hearted person serves God whole headedly because it’s been sanctified and cleansed of all its idols and filthiness of the flesh as the Lord promises Ezekiel 36:25.
However, if your heart is impure and lacks purity, you will not love serving God which you will see as a burden and a waste of time due to the idols such as self still present in your heart that is competing with God.

7. Good To Others.
If you are a goodhearted person with a pure heart, you will also be good to everyone regardless of whether there are good to you or not due to God’s goodness indwelling in your heart that has no partiality.
Jesus Christ said in Luke 6:45 that a good heart out of its good treasure brings forth good things which will be the case if your heart is pure. Therefore, you won’t be cold-hearted to others and do bad things to them.
The reason why people are cruel to others is that they don’t have this good heart which is pure Christ talks about in the above bible verse in the new testament. So, if you want to be a good person, you need to have a pure heart of Christ in you today.
8. Selfless.
Being selfless to others will also be another quality of a pure-hearted person with a pure and good heart. If you are a selfless person, you will think about others and not just yourself.
Naturally, as human beings, our hearts are full of selfishness, which is why we only think of ourselves in our natural sinful state making us incapable of truly loving our neighbors as ourselves as Jesus Christ commands us in Mark 12:31.
However, if your heart has been purified and cleansed from self that makes us naturally selfish and self-centered, you will no longer be selfish but you will now care about the needs of others just as you care about your own.
9. Free From Guilt.
If you have a pure heart, you will also be free from the guilt that sin brings upon a sinner that makes you have a troubled conscience and not be at peace with yourself.
Hebrews 10:22 tells us to draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith which has been cleansed from an evil conscience with our bodies washed with pure water.
We can enter into the presence of God with confidence when our hearts are pure because Jesus has purified our hearts from sin. He forgives the sins of all who believe in him and gives them a new, pure heart, one that is completely free from the guilt of sin.
10. Holy.
This post will be incomplete if I didn’t mention this important quality of a pure heart that has been cleansed and purified by the blood.
A pure heart will be holy and a person cannot claim to be pure in heart if holiness is missing in their lives as holiness symbolizes purity but if you don’t have a clean heart, you won’t be holy due to sin which is still present there.
God commands us in 1 Peter 1:16 to be holy even as He’s holy and this can only be if our hearts are pure and have been cleansed and purified from all sin. So, if you have a pure heart, you will be a holy person who lives a life of holiness.

11. Honors God.
A person who has a pure heart loves, respects, and obeys the Lord in all that they do. They recognize his greatness and goodness and live their lives accordingly by following his Word.
Their lives reflect their desire to please him above everything else and not themselves (Colossians 3:23) because Christ is the one controlling their lives.
But if you have an impure heart that is still carnal, you won’t desire to please and honor the Lord with your life. Rather, you will prefer to please and walk according to the evil and sinful desires of your flesh.
12. Free From Sin.
Last but not least, A pure heart is a heart that has been cleansed from the defilement of sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. Because of His death and resurrection, we can have a pure heart through repentance and faith in Christ.
This means that if your heart is pure, it will be free from sin and the defilement it brings to a person. Remember that only people with a pure heart that’s unspotted from sin are the ones who will finally enter heaven and see God (Matthews 5:8).
You may be wondering if one can have a pure heart that’s free from sin but I am here to tell you that it’s possible if you are truly born again because the Lord promises it in Ezekiel 36:26. All you need to do is ask.
