7 Major Reasons Why God Allows Delays {In Our Lives.}

Sometimes, it can be hard to understand why God seems to be delaying answering prayers in your life. But this post will show you the 7 major reasons why God allows delays in your life so that you know God is still in control.

I am sure at one point in your Christian life or right now, you have experienced some delays in your life in God answering a specific prayer request you have made to Him.

Perhaps, it’s that financial or marital breakthrough you have been praying for that seems to be not forthcoming. In such situations, it’s easy to get discouraged and lose faith in the promises God has made in our lives.

Yes, we may not understand why God allows delays in our lives but one thing I can assure you is that God hasn’t forgotten you and He will answer all your prayer requests in due time.

You need to understand as Isaiah 55:8,9 tells us in the old testament, God’s ways of doing things are different from ours nor is His timeline of doing things our timeline.

With that said, let’s look at the 7 major reasons why God allows delays in our lives as Christians to remind you that delay isn’t denial.

7 Reasons Why God Permits Delays.

Below are the 7 major reasons why God delays answers to our prayer requests to remind you that God makes things beautiful in your life in His own time.

  • To Test Your Faith.
  • To Test Your Patience.
  • To Help Us Mature Spiritually.
  • The Timing Isn’t Right.
  • To Protect You.
  • So That You Can Trust Him More.
  • He’s Preparing You For The Best.

1. To Test Your Faith.

One of the reasons why God may be allowing delays in breakthroughs and answers to your prayer request be it in finances, marriage, etc. is that He may be testing your faith to see if it’s genuine.

It’s easy to have faith when things are going well in your life which doesn’t take much if you ask me. However, the genuineness of your faith can only be proven during difficult times especially when you are experiencing delays in your life.

You need to understand that your Christian faith can only be developed, refined, and proven to be true when you are experiencing delays in your life. Sadly, this is the time most give up.

However, if you don’t give up, God will faithfully reward you for your genuine faith and not giving up in times of delay when others did as He makes all things beautiful in His time as Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us.

2. To Test Your Patience.

Another major reason why God allows delays in answering your prayers is to test your patience. You need to understand that if you want to receive the best our Lord Jesus Christ has to offer, you need to be patient.

I know being patient during difficult times especially when prayers are taking too long to be answered can be challenging. But, you need to understand as Isaiah 40:31 tells us that only those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength and get the best from Him.

The lack of patience in many Christians be it in the area of marriage, ministry, career, finances, etc. has made them miss the best the Lord has to offer.

Your patience can only be proven in times of delay if it’s real or not. If you wait on the Lord, no matter what, I can promise great blessings you never imagined in your life await you on the other side. Just hang in there, dear.

3. To Help Us Mature Spiritually.

Sometimes, God allows delays in your Christian life so that you can mature and grow spiritually in your faith, knowledge, and walk with Him.

If God never allowed delays in our lives as believers, we would not mature spiritually and every slight delay in our lives would cause us to panic and begin to doubt God not realizing that God’s timing is different from ours.

Moreover, when God allows a delay in your life as a Christian, it gives you room to grow in Him and mature spiritually just as fruits do. As you know, fruits don’t mature 5 minutes after planting them in the soil. They take time.

Likewise, you can only fully mature spiritually in the things of the Lord and your Christian faith if delays are allowed in your life to give you time to fully grow in the things of the Lord Jesus Christ as 2 Peter 3:18 in the new testament encourages us to.

4. The Timing Isn’t Right.

You need to understand that God’s timing is perfect and always right. So when we don’t see immediate results from His Word or actions, it’s because our faith needs strengthening or we need healing before receiving what was promised (Hebrews 11:6-7).

Yes, you may not yet receive an answer or breakthrough to what you have been earnestly praying for because it’s not yet the right time for you to receive it.

Once you receive what you have been praying for at the right time, you will understand why God delayed your blessings or answers to your prayers. You will be thankful that you patiently waited upon God for nothing but the best He has for you.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that God makes all things beautiful in His time. So, if you are at a place in your life where you desperately want a major breakthrough in your life, just remember at the appointed time all things will be beautiful in your life.

5. To Protect You.

Believe it or not, at times, God may delay answering your prayers or giving you certain blessings in your life as a way of protecting you from danger and evil people.

I know you may not understand why God seemed to have closed certain doors of breakthroughs and blessings in your life but He’s doing so to protect you (Psalms 37:39).

Imagine if God blessed you at the wrong time especially if you are surrounded by the wrong people who are jealous of your blessing, those jealous people may try to steal what you have.

For this reason, it’s only when such people leave your life will God now begin to open doors of certain blessings and breakthroughs He withheld when those people were in your life so that they are not stolen.

6. So That You Can Trust Him More.

At times, God will not answer your prayer request at the time you expected as He wants to teach you to trust Him more in every circumstance or situation whether good or bad.

When you learn to trust the Lord in all situations with all your heart, you won’t easily lose your faith when things are delaying in your life.

It’s in times of delay, we learn to trust the Lord more and to seek His guidance in the life situations we may be facing. Proverbs 3:5,6 tells us to trust the Lord with all our hearts and to lean not to our own understanding.

In times of delay, it’s easy to lean on our own understanding and try to cut corners to get what we want. However, when you learn to trust God with all your heart in times of delay, you will wait upon Him knowing that He can’t fail to fulfill His promises.

7. He’s Preparing You For The Best.

Last but not least, God will delay your blessings and answers to your prayers because He’s preparing you for the best He has to offer. I am sure you have heard of a quote that says,” good things come to those who wait.”

This could not be further from the truth if you are a Christian who’s waiting upon the Lord. If you wait upon Him and are not hasty like a lion chasing you, the best will be the portion of your soul.

Implying that you will receive the best from God be it in the area of marriage, careers, jobs, finances, etc. If you patiently wait for the promise of God in your life to be fulfilled at the right time.

As we earlier saw in the previous bible verse of Isaiah 40:31, we are promised to receive the best from the Lord in all areas of our lives and have renewed strength like an eagle only if we wait upon Him.
