1. Satan.

The devil is the number one primary reason why sin and evil exist in this world in the first place because he’s the one who first sinned among all created beings. He’s the author of sin and evil as we know it.

And the major sin of Satan was pride and self which made him want to be like God forgetting that he was a created being created to serve and give glory to God and not himself.

The bible in Isaiah 14:12-15 sheds more light on the sin of pride Satan had that caused him to be cast out of heaven along with his angels who followed him.

Before Satan fell, he was Lucifer, the anointed cherub who covers God’s throne and perhaps the most beautiful and splendid angel God ever created. Yet, even that was not enough for this most beautiful angel God created.

As a result, he started desiring more and started plotting in his heart how he can usurp God’s throne and glory but his plan didn’t go unnoticed as God knows all things and Satan’s plot to oust Him out of His throne was no surprise. See what pride can do, dear.

Since God can’t allow rebellion in His kingdom, Satan and his angel had to be cast out of heaven if heaven was to be in peace and harmony. Henceforth, the devil was cast out of heaven along with his rebellious angels (Revelations 12:7-17).

This sin of pride is also common to fallen man due to the sinful nature we are all born with which is why man always wants to exalt himself for what he’s done instead of God. Pride is the reason we fail to admit our mistakes in life and fail to humble ourselves before God.

2. The Original Sin Of Adam & Eve.

This article about the root causes of sin would be incomplete if the original sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden wasn’t mentioned.

The original sin of Adam and Eve is the reason why we are all born with a sinful nature because our first parents we came from sinned causing everyone born after the fall of man to be inherently evil.

No wonder when men began to multiply on earth in those days when Adam and Eve were driven out of the Garden of Eden, this world became full of all manner of evil never witnessed before the fall of man.

We are told in Genesis 6:5 that men before the flood were exceedingly wicked and that their imaginations in their hearts were evil continually which is why the Lord had to wipe them out before whole humanity was doomed.

Many people wonder why there is so much evil in this world and the simple that answer is the original sin nature we all inherited from our first parents.

It’s this sinful Adamic nature that causes us to do all sorts of evil things such as murder, envy, sexual immorality, lying, stealing e.tc.

Jesus Christ is the only one who can remove this Adamic nature of sin we all have the causes us to do all manner of bad things through His salvation that gives has a new birth and new nature that makes us want to follow after righteousness and hate the sin we once loved.

3. Selfishness.

Selfishness is another major root cause of sin and why people do all sorts of evil things towards each other with no total regard for the welfare of their fellow humans.

The love of self is too much in so many people and that is why many relationships and marriages are not lasting and ending in breakups because everyone is all about themselves and what you can benefit them.

This is why I believe, no human being on this earth can truly love you unless that person is saved with a new nature of Christ and the imputed selfless love of Christ in that person.

Love to fallen man is all about who you are to that person and what person can get from you, period. When you can’t benefit such people in some ways, they abandon you in cold blood.

No wonder when you try to get something from the child, that child screams and wants everything to itself. All that is the demonstration of the natural selfish nature all human beings have.

Sin is the reason why selfishness and greed exist in this world be it among politicians, lovers, friendships etc. so many people are self-centred these days and are all about you meeting their selfish needs.

Only those who have been truly saved and have the love of Christ imputed in the can selflessly love others without any selfish motives that come with the love of fallen sinful humans (Romans 12:9).

4. Our Fallen Adamic Nature.

Another reason why we sin or do bad things we don’t like is because of the sinful Adamic nature we all have that we inherited from our first parents.

It’s this Adamic nature that causes us to naturally love sin and hate righteousness because our sinful flesh loves sinful pleasures and hates holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24).

Many people wonder why they do bad things they don’t like, no matter how hard they try not to do the bad things they hate.

And the simple answer to that is that we all have a sinful nature that naturally inclines but to do evil things which is why doing bad things is much easier than doing good things.

If you want to stop doing bad things you hate, Jesus Christ is the only solution you will ever need to help you overcome the power of sin that has a firm grip on your life and made you captive.

The bible in Titus 2:11 also goes further to say that God’s grace that brings salvation has appeared to everyone. It’s this grace that will enable you to overcome the Adamic nature that causes you to sin in the first place.

No wonder Paul in Romans 6:6-23 that we need to crucify this old man that cause us to sin and put on a new nature of Christ that will enable us to no longer walk of the sinful desires of the flesh but to follow after righteousness instead.

5. Lust Of The Flesh.

The lust of the flesh is another major reason why people sin and do all sorts of bad and immoral things due to a lack of self-control when it comes to controlling their fleshly desires.

Lust is simply the strong desire for something especially in a sexual way and this lust is the reason why there are so many unwanted pregnancies and abortions in the current generation we live in.

Our sinful flesh has desires which are usually sinful and often lead us to sin. No wonder Paul tell us in Galatians 5:16 that we must walk after the Spirit and not after the sinful desires of the flesh.

Sadly, most people including so-called Christians live according to their fleshly desires rather than walking after the Spirit by following after righteousness and pursuing holiness.

And these fleshly lusts have wreaked havoc among many Christians which is evident with the rampant sexual immorality present in churches today among the so-called daughters of Zion who are playing a harlot.

Every believer in Christ is told in 2 Timothy 2:22 to flee all youthful and fleshly lusts that are constantly warring against our precious immortal souls and pursue righteousness instead.

In 1 John 2:16, we are told the 3 major lusts of this world which cause many to fall into sin and are: lust of the flesh, just of the eyes and the pride of life which are of this world and not from God. As a true believer, these worldly lusts must not rule over you.

6. Love Of Sin.

The love of sin and being disobedient to God’s word that condemns all sin is one of the major reasons why people sin in the first place.

You will only sin or enjoy your sinful lifestyle if you love sin in your heart. So many people are in love with their evil ways and don’t want to turn away from them as if sin gives eternal life.

These are the people John 3:19 talks about that love darkness and their evil deeds lest their evil deeds be exposed by the Light of Christ.

Most people love their sin because of the temporal pleasures sin brings to the human flesh and see no reason as to why they must repent and ask God’s forgiveness for the sins they are enjoying.

When you tell these people that they need to repent and turn away from their wicked ways, they will get angry at you for speaking against their sinful lifestyles

Sadly, the love of sin in one’s life only leads to eternal destruction in hellfire which isn’t worth it in the end if you ask me. It doesn’t cost much to deny your sinful flesh of its sinful pleasures that are just ruining your soul.

If you are in love with your sinful lifestyle as you are reading this, dear, you need to stop loving your sin because sinful pleasure only lasts for a season but the consequences that they bring are gruesome and eternal.

7. Lack Of A New Birth.

The lack of new spiritual birth in Christ at salvation that takes away our old sinful nature and replaces it with a new nature of Christ is the reason why most people live in perpetual sin.

One thing you must know dear as you are reading this is that unless you are truly born again and have a new birth in Christ Jesus, sin will always have a firm grip on your life.

This is because your old nature of sin that makes you do bad things in the first place hasn’t been death with at salvation and only Christ has the power to set you free from the power of sin.

No wonder why most people find it hard to live a godly victorious life that’s above sin and wonder whether it’s possible to live a holy life that’s free from sin.

And these people have concluded that no one can live a holy life in this wicked world which isn’t true of course as the bible commands us to be holy as He who’s called us is holy (1Peter 1:15-17).

They say so because they haven’t yet experienced this new inner spiritual birth experience in their lives which indicates that these people are not truly born again yet though they claim to be so.

You will only be able to have victory over sin if you have experienced new birth in Christ that changes and transforms you from the inside so that you no longer walk according to your former sinful desires of the flesh.
