When Does Eternal Life Begin? [+ Wonderful Sermon].

The question of when does eternal life begin is a common question most people and Christians ask and this post today will try to answer that question for you.

To know when eternal life begins, you must first know who Jesus Christ is and why He had to die on the cross for your sins and rise on the third day which will be briefly discussed here.

But before we can answer the question of when does eternal life begin, we will first look at the few important aspects that deal with this subject for better understanding. Let’s dive in.

Why Is Eternal Life Important?

There are many reasons why eternal life is important in a life of a person. One of the most important reasons is that it saves us from the wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1:10).

Being saved from the wrath to come here simply means being saved from the eternal death and eternal punishment in hellfire which will come on all unrepentant sinners who rejected Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and saviour while on earth.

Secondly, eternal life is the key and gateway to heaven without it, forget about making it for heaven, dear and you can’t afford to miss heaven because if you do, you will be the most unfortunate person indeed who will wish that you had never been born.

This means that the pleasures of this world are not worth risking your eternal life for because there are perishable and temporary which won’t even matter in the end once your earthly life comes to an end.

Additionally, everlasting life found only in Christ Jesus is what separates true Christianity from all other false religions of this earth which can’t give you this everlasting life that will enable you to spend eternity with God in heaven when you die (John 3:36).

Lastly, Eternal life is the gateway to everlasting eternal bliss in eternity when all is said and done with your earthly life which is why you can’t afford to reject this precious God’s love gift He has freely given us through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

What Eternal Life Is All About?

To understand what eternal life is about, you must first understand why Jesus Christ came into this world to die for all our sins as told in the gospels of the new testament.

We are told in Romans 5:6-11 that God loved us while we were still sinners which is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we can have salvation and eternal life which come after genuine repentance by grace through faith.

One thing you need to know that dear reader is that we are all sinners who have fallen short of God’s glory deserving of hellfire which means that something had to be done to save humanity from this horrible fate sin brings on (Romans 3:23).

And the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross was the answer that whosoever believe in Him will be saved and have everlasting life but those who don’t will be damned and have to spend their eternity with the devil and his angels in hellfire (Matthews 25:41).

There’s a lot more to eternal life than just never experiencing physical death again. The real glory and benefit of eternal life are that we will spend eternity in God’s presence and that of the redeemed saints of all times in everlasting joy and bliss.

And most importantly, being saved from the wrath to come in hellfire where all unsaved sinners will spend their eternity which was prepared for the devil and his angels.

Where Is Eternal Life Found?

Eternal life is found only in Jesus Christ, who also happens to be the only way to the Father which is why He said in John 14:6 that He’s the way, the truth and the life and that no man can come to the Father except through Him.

This means that you can’t earn your way to heaven by your good works or by some other means other than coming through Christ Jesus who is that door you need to go through if you want to enter heaven.

The Bible teaches that eternal life is found only in Jesus Christ. It’s found in Him because He’s the Son of God, who came into the world to take the punishment for our sin and no man has ever done that which is why salvation is only through Him and none else (Acts 4:12).

He died on the cross and rose from the dead three days later. Now anyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Christ will have their sins forgiven and spend eternity with Him.

Jesus gives us eternal life by giving us His Holy Spirit that regenerates our soul into His likeness. It is the Holy Spirit that changes the way we think, behave and act.

And it’s this Holy Spirit that produces in us the 9 fruit of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control which only manifest if one is truly saved (Galatians 5:22,23).

What Leads To Eternal Life?

To understand what leads to eternal life, we must first understand what eternal life is. Eternal life is a free gift that God has made available to anyone who believes in His Begotten Son as their personal Lord and saviour.

It’s this eternal life that will enable all true believers who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation that will enable them to spend eternity with God in heaven after their resurrection when the rapture happens (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17).

There is only one thing that leads to eternal life. What is it? It’s not religion, because there are people of all false religions who are already in hell or already heading there.

You will never find everlasting life that will enable you to go to heaven and avoid hellfire in all the false religions of this world which are just deceiving and leading many astray to their eternal perdition.

There’s nothing you can do to earn eternal life. Eternal life is a free gift from God as we are saved by grace through faith and not our good works lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9).

So, this means that believing in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation and nothing else is the only thing that will lead to eternal life which will enable you to spend eternity with Him in heaven when He comes to collect His own in glory with his angels.

When Does Eternal Life Begin?

If want to know where eternal life begins and how you can receive it, below are the 3 steps that mark the genesis of eternal life in a person’s life.

  • Believing In Jesus Christ.
  • Repentance Of One’s Sins.
  • Accepting Christ As Your Savior.

(i). Believing In Jesus Christ.

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. If you believe in Jesus Christ today, you are promised to be with Him in eternity in heaven forever. Isn’t that wonderful?

But if you don’t believe in Jesus Christ but reject Him in your pride, you will be eternally damned and separated from God’s presence for all eternity in hellfire (2 Thessalonians 1:9).

Sometimes people think that believing in Jesus Christ is all about doing good deeds and following church rules. But It’s more than that. Truly believing in Christ means you believe who He claims to be wholeheartedly and that only He can forgive your sins and save you from hellfire.

Paul in Romans 10:9 says that if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ that He’s Lord and was raised on the third day with all your heart, you shall be saved and have eternal life as simple as that.

(ii). Repentance Of One’s Sins.

Repentance is one of the most important steps in the process of returning to God. It is the action of returning to God. The word repentance means to turn away from sin and to turn to God by changing your mind about sin and who God is.

It is this change of mind of one’s sins and the willingness to forsake them once and for all that leads to one obtaining forgiveness for their sins which is key to salvation (Proverbs 28:13).

Remember, true repentance isn’t just about feeling sorry for our sins, it’s turning away from them and trusting in Christ for your salvation.

If your repentance is genuine, you won’t desire to go back to the past sinful lifestyle you renounced on the altar call. If the opposite is the case, then your repentance isn’t genuine at all.

(iii). Accepting Christ As Your Savior.

Accepting Christ as your personal Lord and saviour is another crucial step you need to do if you want to have everlasting life and be in heaven which is full of indescribable joy.

Jesus Christ promises in John 3:15 that all those who believe in and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior will have everlasting life which enables all those who Have accepted Him to partake of His divine nature (1 Peter 1:4).

He also goes on further in John 11:25 that He’s the resurrection and the life and that all those who truly believe in Him by accepting Him in their hearts will not see death but will be passed on to life, everlasting life in this case.

But if like most people reject Him while you are here on earth, you will be damned in hellfire forever which is a grim prospect indeed. Don’t be that unlock soul, please.
