Why Is Quiet Time With God Important [With Illustrations]

Why is quiet time with God important to Christians? This is the question this post will attempt to answer today as to why you need daily quiet time in your Christian life.

It’s easy to get bogged down in our busy schedules and forget about God but quiet time with God can be an important part of your Christian life that will help us not forget God.

There are many reasons why you need to have quiet time with God as it helps you in your spiritual growth and helps grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As a Christian, you need to take pleasure in spending time with God in prayer during your quiet time as that is the time you are free from all worldly distractions to fully concentrate on God and read His word.

To answer today’s question on why is quiet time with God important to a believer, we will first look at what quiet time is and why you need it in your daily Christian living with references to bible verses in both the old testament and the new testament.

What Is Quiet Time With God?

Quiet time with God is the time we spend each day in quietness, just hearing His voice and listening to His words. The Bible says that we were created to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:23).

This is what we do when we spend our time with God. Quiet time with God also means spending time in prayer and reading scripture, which also means spending time in thoughtfulness, listening attentively to what He is saying to us through His Word.

When we are listening for His voice, it is no longer about us; it becomes about Him, His love for us, His plan for our lives, and how He wants us to live our lives.

The Bible also tells us that when we spend quietly with God in prayer and reading His word, He will speak to us and answer our prayers as well as give us whatever help or guidance we need from Him.

As a Christian, it’s important that every morning, you set aside that time where you can be alone with God through prayer and reading His word as many benefits come with having quiet time with the Lord before your day begins.

Doing so is what will help you have a strong relationship with God and grow in the knowledge of His word as you read more of God’s word during that time.

Why Is Quiet Time Important?

I believe that quiet time with God is very important as it gives us time to reflect on what we have done and how we can improve our actions. It also allows us to thank God for all the good things he has done for us on this day.

It is also important because through these meditations or reading God’s word daily during our quiet time, we get to know more about the Bible, which helps us understand the life of Jesus Christ better.

We also get to learn more about His teachings and how they apply to our lives today. Quiet time also helps you to grow closer to God.

You may not feel close enough right now, but when you’re spending time with God, He will likely reveal Himself more clearly in your life and help you grow closer to Him.

Spending time with Him is a great way to build a relationship with Him and get to know Him better and more intimately (Psalms 119:9).

If you are not adequately spending time with God, you won’t be able to have the deep and close intimate relationship with Him which He desires to have with you.

We Must Follow Jesus’ Example.

In James 4:8, the bible tells us that we must draw near to God and resist the devil, which can only be made possible if we spend quality time with Him during our quiet time by reading the bible and praying every day.

Our Lord Jesus Christ spent time with His Father in heaven every day of His earthly life. He prayed and meditated on His Father’s will until He knew it perfectly (Matthew 6:5).

Then He did what He came here to do: help people live good lives on earth by giving us salvation and eternal life through His death as well as all of the other blessings necessary for living a happy, healthy, prosperous life.

Jesus Christ gave us the perfect example to follow as Christians. If He being God’s Son was able to spend quiet time with God by going to a solitary place to pray as we see in Mark 1:35-41, why shouldn’t you? Seeing that you are His follower.

So don’t neglect to have daily quiet time with God as it’s how you will be able to draw closer to God and have a deep fulfilling intimate relationship with Him and the Holy Spirit.

Quiet Time Helps Us Grow Spiritually.

Quiet time is also important as it helps us in our spiritual growth. When you develop a daily habit of spending quality time with God early in the morning through prayer and reading His Word, you will become more established in Him.

On the other hand, if you are too lazy to have your daily quiet time with God but can spend endless hours on social media, your spiritual life will suffer which will explain why your Christian life isn’t where it’s supposed to be now.

Additionally, quiet time helps us prepare for the day. As you know, each day is full of daily challenges and temptations that you will face and need to overcome.

Remember as 1 Peter 5:8 tells us, the devil is a roaring lion seeking who he may devour especially weak Christians who don’t spend enough time with God to be more established in Him.

When you pray early in the morning, you reinforce God’s hedge of protection in your life through prayer that helps you overcome any challenges and temptations Satan may have set before you for the day.

Quiet time also energizes your spiritual strength when you pray and read God’s word daily either through your daily bible study or prayer journal.

It’s this spiritual strength you get every day when you have quiet time with God that will enable you to overcome the daily challenges of life and withstand the wiles of the devil and his snares.

How To Have Quiet Time With God?

There are many ways you can have quiet time with God and the business of this life must not be an excuse for you not spending quality time with God.

You need to remember that daily quiet time isn’t a luxury but a necessity for your Christian living and Christian life if you want to develop your Christian faith and fellowship with God.

If quiet time with God is a priority in your life, you are going to make time for it, no matter how busy you may be and if it is not, you will come up with meaningless excuses of not having time because you are busy.

On the flip side, if you are serious about spending time with God, below are the 3 tips on how to have quiet time with God that you can apply in your life.

(i). Find A Quiet Place To Pray.

Find a quiet place where you can be alone and comfortable which is free from distractions where you can pray and read God’s word with undivided attention Just as Jesus did.

Just as Jesus Christ had to find a solitary place to pray as we see in Mark 1:35 to be with His Heavenly Father which was free from distractions, you as well have to do the same if you have to have effective quiet time with the Lord.

The place you choose for spending time with God must be free from any distractions such as T.V or noisy surroundings that may affect your concentration on God.

(i). Find A Suitable Time To Pray.

After finding a suitable place to spend quiet time with God and be in God’s presence that is free from any distractions, you now need to find a suitable time with God to pray.

The most suitable time the bible recommends is early morning as Jesus Christ did in Mark 1:35 as morning is the time everyone is asleep and is quiet. It’s also the time when you can praise God without any disturbances common in the daytime.

Doing quiet time in the morning has several advantages in that your mind will be fresh and you will be free from all the noises of this busy world which are more prevalent during the day.

(iii). Meditate On God’s Word.

Thirdly, take some time each day just before sleeping to meditate on what happened today and how it relates to God’s word and teachings (Psalm 1:1-2).

Take some time each day just after waking up to think about what happened yesterday and why God allowed it (Psalm 1:3-9) and to think about what He has in store for you today by reading His word.

As you develop a daily habit of reading and meditating on God’s word daily, you will gradually find it easy to wake up early in the morning to spend time in God’s presence and your desire to be with Him will increase over time.

Conclusion.
