Have you ever wondered what a sinful lifestyle is? Perhaps you have done something that you understand is wrong, or have kept doing something wrong.
Sin, as defined in the Bible in 1 John 3:3 is the breaking of God’s commands. Although there will always be areas to improve upon and mistakes to avoid, the Bible does tell us how we can live our life correctly.
Sadly, so many people including professing Christians live a life of sin that doesn’t reflect that of our Lord Jesus Christ due to the sinful nature that’s still active in their lives which is a sad truth indeed.
For us to define what a sinful lifestyle is, we will look at some bible passages that will help us answer the question, “what is a sinful lifestyle,” this post is dealing with today.
With that said, let us jump into our main topic of defining what a sinful lifestyle is so that you can repent of it if necessary and turn to righteousness and godly living.
What Is A Sinful Lifestyle?
The biblical definition of a sinful lifestyle is simply a lifestyle contrary to God’s word that is comprised of sin and that is without the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ Titus 2:11 talks about that teaches one to deny all forms of ungodliness and worldly lusts.
There are several sins that characterize a sinful lifestyle or a sinful life and examples of such sins are sexual immorality, drunkenness, lying, lasciviousness and so on.
Every sinful lifestyle out there is comprised by the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21 talks about which is why people living such lifestyles do all manner of evil things that displeases the Lord with impunity.
The lack of the fruits of the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22, 23 talks about in the lifestyle of a sinner is what makes an unregenerate sinner live a life of sin that is void of Christ Jesus.

Examples Of A Sinful Lifestyle?
Both in the old treatment and the New Testament, you will find many examples of sinful lifestyles that wicked people during those eras lived which are commonplace today as well.
One such example of a sinful lifestyle that is common among many young people including professing believers in the church today church is the sin of sexual immorality which is now commonplace.
Many young people including so-called believers professing the Christian faith today have lost respect and dignity for their own bodies which is why they indulge in pre-marital sex God’s word is strictly against all because they want to please their sinful flesh.
1 Corinthians 6:18 tells us to flee sexual immorality which is unique from every other sin as it involves sinning against your own body as other sins are done outside the body.
So, if you have committed any sexual sin, I encourage you to repent of your immoral lifestyle before that immoral lifestyle ruins your life and ends up giving you STDs and unwanted pregnancies.

What Are Sinful Behaviors?
Sinful behaviors are those behaviors that are characterized by sin and such examples of sinful behaviours are habitual sin, homosexual behaviour, sexual immorality, adultery etc. which sadly is commonplace today even in the Christian church which is supposed to be pure and spotless.
People who exhibit such sinful behaviors do so because they are still living in the flesh and they are not truly saved yet with the new nature of Jesus Christ in them to help them live godly in this present evil world.
The sinful behaviours be it living a homosexual lifestyle that the scripture condemns in Leviticus 18:22 in the Old Testament and 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10 in the New Testament is because of the nature of sin that’s still active in the life of sinner doing these abominable things.
Pornography is also among the common sinful behaviors that most people including believers indulge in today and has wrecked many Christians today.
If you are exhibiting the above sinful behaviors be it sinful addictions to drugs, pornography, sexual sin etc., you need to ask for grace and forgiveness for your sins so that you can be delivered from them or they will destroy you and make you go to hell.

How To Stop Living A Sinful Lifestyle?
If you want to stop living a sinful life and turn to a life of righteousness and holiness that’s above sin, then I have some good news today.
The good news is that it’s possible to stop living a sinful life by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ who died for your sins so that you may be free from sin and have salvation and eternal life in Him.
Below are the three steps you will ever need to take if you want to stop living a sinful lifestyle so that you can start living a Christian life of righteousness that brings glory to God.
(i). Repent & Confess Your Sins.
The first step you need to take if you want to stop living a life of sin is to repent and confess your sins to Jesus Christ so that you can obtain mercy and forgiveness of your sins.
True repentance means changing your mind you have towards sin and God by forsaking them and turning back to God.
This is why Proverbs 28:13 says that only those who truly repent, confess and forsake their sins will obtain mercy and forgiveness of their sins and if your repentance is genuine, you will not return to your former sinful lifestyle.

(ii). Accept Christ Into Your Life.
The other thing you need to do after truly repenting of your sinful lifestyle is you need to fully accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour with all your heart as you can’t obtain salvation if you don’t fully believe and accept Christ in your life as your Lord and saviour.
Paul tells us in Romans 10:9,10 that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead on the third day, you shall be saved today and right now.
Don’t make the mistake of rejecting Christ as most people are doing because you will bitterly regret it in the end when all is said and done with your earthly life.
(iii). Sin No More.
Last but not least, after doing the above steps, you should be saved by now and have that joy of salvation now that is if you have truly repented of your sins and have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour with all your heart.
To completely stop living a life of sin, you need to go and sin no more Just as Jesus Christ told the woman who was caught in adultery in John 8:11 which sadly most people don’t do which explains why they struggle with the same sins and addictions year in year out.
Otherwise, if you don’t do that, you won’t stop living a sinful life even if you want to unless your resolve in your heart dear that you don’t want anything to do with sin anymore. Only then, will you stop living in sin and start living a life of righteousness and holiness.
