Now that you are saved, you may be wondering what do I do next after getting saved? And this is what you will find out in this article.
There are many things you need to do after receiving your salvation and eternal life so that you can grow and become established in the Lord as a new convert or babe in Christ.
And by the end of this article, you will know all the 7 things you need to do after getting saved that will help you to continue in the Lord to the end and finally make it for heaven.
7 Things To Do After You Get Saved.
Here are the 7 things you need to do immediately after you get saved so that you don’t lose your salvation or go back into the old sinful lifestyle you renounced on the altar call.
- Go And Sin No More.
- Daily Bible Reading.
- Get Baptized.
- Go To Church.
- Have An Active Prayer Life.
- Be Sanctified.
- Share Christ To Others.
1. Go And Sin No More.
This is perhaps the most important thing you must do after getting saved from sin and the horrible consequences it brings on all those who have rejected Jesus Christ.
When you receive salvation after genuine repentance of your sin, you must go and sin no more because if you go and sin again after repenting and confessing your sins on the altar call, then it means that your repentance is fake and not genuine at all.
If your repentance is genuine, you won’t desire to go back to the past sinful lifestyle you chose to renounce on the altar call. It’s not enough to just say that you have repented of your sins.
You also need to show that you mean it by the lifestyle you are living. No wonder Jesus Christ in John 8:11 told the woman who was caught in adultery red-handed to go and sin no more.
And that woman caught in adultery heeded those words of Jesus Christ and never returned to her vomit as most people do. Instead, she became a truly devoted follower of Christ.
Sadly, most people or so-called converts don’t follow this crucial step after repenting of their sins on the altar call. Instead, most return to the very same vomit they renounced a few minutes earlier on the altar call and I used to be that person but no more.
On the other hand, if your salvation is genuine, you will surely not sin anymore or return to your old vomit because if you do then, your salvation is fake and still in need of new birth that genuine salvation brings.

2. Daily Bible Reading.
Reading God’s word daily early in the morning after getting saved is also another important step you need to take and develop into a daily habit to help you grow in the Lord.
It will act as a lamp to your feet and light your path so that you don’t sin against the Lord as the Psalmist David wonderfully puts in Psalms 119:105.
You can only truly know and understand God and who He is by constantly reading and meditating on his word as Joshua 1:8 wonderfully puts it.
It’s by meditating on God’s word daily will you be able to come to know the Lord more deeply on an intimate level and not superficially. Daily bible reading will also help you deepen your faith in God
But if you don’t read God’s word after getting saved, you will not be established in Him and you will be a very weak convert and most likely to return to your former sinful lifestyle when the temptations to do that become too much to overcome.
This is because you have not been established in the Lord due to the weak foundation you have caused by not reading His word which is a problem most new converts have nowadays.
Reading God’s word is what will help have a strong foundation in him so that no temptation to go back to your former sins when they come will overcome you.
3. Get Baptized.
This is another important step you need to take after getting saved by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Receiving baptism in the Holy Spirit is very crucial in your life as a new convert.
And this baptism must be the full immersion of your body in water the same way Jesus Christ was baptized in river Jordan by John the Baptist. Anything other than that isn’t valid baptism at all and you won’t receive the Holy Spirit.
The reason for getting baptized as a newly born again Christian is that it’s only through baptism will you be able to be endued by the power from on high that Jesus talks about in Luke 24:49.
It’s this power from on high that will make you do exploits in the kingdom of God and make you effective in God’s ministry.
Another reason why you must get baptized after getting saved is that it’s a commandment from our Lord Jesus Christ as it signifies we are alive in Him and dead to our former sinful self.
Without this power of the Holy Spirit from on high that comes through baptism after receiving genuine salvation and not before, you will struggle in your Christian life and be prone to falling into simple temptations.
Baptism also identifies you with Jesus Christ and that you now belong to the royal family of God and are a partaker of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
4. Go To Church.
It’s important to fellowship with your fellow like-minded believers in Christ who will help you grow in the Lord and give you a sense of belonging.
If you don’t find a bible believing church where you can congregate with your fellow Christians, you will easily become discouraged when things get tough on your new Christian journey of which it will.
And as a new convert or babe in Christ, you will give up easily when things get hard or unpleasant on your Christian journey. Remember, Christianity is not all sunshine and rainbows as most preachers may want you to believe.
But if you are fellowshipping with other Christians in a bible believing church who can encourage and strengthen you in the Lord, you will be less likely to backslide or quit your Christian race when trials of faith or persecutions come.
No wonder Paul in Hebrews 10:25 encourages us not to forsake the assembling of one another in a church setting as the manner of some is. You may say that you don’t need to go to church to be saved and that’s true to some extent.
However, by not going to church to fellowship with your fellow Christians who can encourage you on your Christian journey, you will become an easy target for the devil especially when trials of faith come.
In this vulnerable state alone with no one to encourage you in the Lord, you will most likely give up your Christian race set before you and this is the reason why most new coverts backside when things get hard but don’t be that person.
5. Have An Active Prayer Life.
In addition to reading God’s word I earlier discussed in this post, you also need to pray every day as you are reading your bible as prayer is what will connect you to God (Psalms 34:15).
Without this active prayer life especially if you are a new convert, you will be a weak Christian and you will be prone to backsliding and falling into temptations. No wonder Jesus Christ said in Luke 22:46 that we ought to pray so that temptations don’t overcome us.
In short, you won’t be able to stand in the hour of trial when trials of faith come to test and refine you because of your deficient spiritual armoury caused by the lack of prayer in your new Christian life.
Prayer is a very potent spiritual weapon you can’t afford to ignore especially if you are a new convert because prayer is what will enable you to quench the fiery darts of the enemy that are being thrown at you.
The other reason why prayer is important in your life is that it’s the only way you can talk or communicate with God. For without it, you won’t be able to talk to God to share what’s in your heart or ask anything from Him.
Many converts are lazy and live prayerless lives and this is why they easily backslide and fall back into the old sinful ways they renounced on the altar call earlier on.
So, if you want to be a strong and victorious Christian that lives above sin, prayer is a must in your life and that’s not up for debate, dear.
6. Be Sanctified.
Another vital thing you must do in your Christian life after receiving your eternal salvation which brings everlasting life, is you need to get sanctified.
To be sanctified simply means to be set apart for a sacred religious purpose and in this case, God’s purpose. It also means to make holy so that you become born of God (Leviticus 20:7).
Sanctification is what will enable you to truly love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and might without any selfish motives as sanctification deals with the Adamic nature that we all have that makes us sin.
One thing you must know is that even if you become saved, that root of sin or the Adamic nature will still be present in you and this is the reason you may be struggling to overcome certain sins in your life by a landslide victory.
But when you get sanctified, that Adamic nature that causes you to sin is completely dealt with and replaced with a new nature of Christ that will make you hate sin and desire righteousness.
No wonder Paul said in 2 Corinthians 7:1 that we need to cleanse ourselves from every sinful pollution of the flesh and the spirit so that we can be sanctified by the Lord.
It’s only when you are sanctified by the blood of the Lamb that cleanses all sin and makes you whiter than snow will you be able to overcome the power of sin with ease and be able to live a consecrated life.
7. Share Christ To Others.
When you get saved and receive the gift of eternal life, you also need to share this good news of how you got saved with others so that peradventure they can become saved as well.
One thing you must know is that immediately you become saved, you now have a divine mandate of preaching the gospel of truth, salvation and eternal life to others so that they can get saved and escape God’s judgment that is coming.
Many souls are perishing daily and most of these souls aren’t even saved and it’s imperative that by whatever means necessary you do something to save at least some of them from hellfire.
And according to the latest statistics about 180,000 people die each day and most of them are plunging into hellfire every minute.
Remember, there is no second chance for repentance and forgiveness of sins once you die. Only now when one is alive on earth can they repent and ask forgiveness of their sins. Once in the grave, it’s all over and judgment follows next (Hebrews 9:27).
No wonder Jesus Christ said in Mark 16:15,16 that we must go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature which is Christ greatest commission He has ever given us.
Remember, great rewards are awaiting you in heaven if you win many souls unto the Lord and turn many unto righteousness and that must motivate you to share the good news of salvation and eternal life to others. (Daniel 12:3).
