Looking for 7 habits of a godly life to help you live godly in this present evil world? Then, you have come to the right place.
Living a godly life is not just a philosophy or a set of principles. It is a practical lifestyle of truth and holiness, a way of life that is lived out before the Lord.
In this article, you will learn the most important 7 habits of a godly life that will help you live a holy Christian life that will bring glory to God.
Seven Habits Of A Godly Life.
Here are the seven habits for godly living that will help you get closer to God and be godly in this crooked world.
- Reading God’s Word.
- Praying Every day.
- Walking After The Spirit.
- Faith.
- Obedience.
- Pursuing Righteousness.
- Godly Love.
1. Reading God’s Word.
Reading God’s word is one of the most important godly life habits that will help you become established in the Lord.
As a truly born-again Christian, you must read God’s word daily as it will help develop your spiritual life.
Reading the Bible daily will help you know more about Jesus Christ so that you can have a better personal relationship with Him.
Secondly, reading the Bible daily helps us not to fall into sin, as the Psalmist David wonderfully puts it in Psalms 119:11.
If you develop a daily habit of reading God’s word, you will become more rooted and established in His word.
Consequently, you will find it hard to fall into sin due to the word you have hidden in your heart which is a lamp to your feet.
But if you don’t develop a daily habit of reading God’s word, living a godly life will be hard for you to do.
The reason why most believers can’t consistently live a godly life that is victorious over sin is that they haven’t yet developed a daily godly habit of reading their bibles.
If you want to grow in the Lord and live a godly life that is above sin, you need to develop a daily habit of reading the bible.
This is because God’s word is a vital armor you need to put on to effectively overcome the wiles and temptations of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-18).
2. Praying Every day.
Prayer combined with faith is a very important spiritual weapon you need to have in your Christian life to neutralize the satanic strongholds of darkness.
If you want to be a godly person who overcomes sin, you need an effective strong prayer life if you are to defeat the devil.
Without prayer, you will be spiritually weak and temptations from the enemy will easily overcome you.
Sadly, most believers don’t have strong prayer lives to help them withstand Satan’s temptations due to a lack of discipline.
It’s why many of these believers easily fall into temptations. The lack of discipline by most believers is the reason why their prayer lives are a train wreck.
And the devil is having a very nice field day with such weak believers as he knows they are easy targets for him.
No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 26:41 that we ought to pray so that we don’t enter into temptations.
Sadly, most Christians have ignored this sound advice from our Lord Jesus Christ and wonder why they are living defeated Christian lives.
If Jesus Christ prayed every day, who are you not to pray, dear? Don’t expect to go far in your Christian life if you don’t pray the way our Lord Jesus Christ did.
Without an effective prayer life of faith to quench the fiery darts of the enemy, you won’t live a victorious Christian life that is above sin.
Rising and falling will be a constant theme in your Christian life if you are prayerless unless you start taking prayer seriously.
3. Walking After The Spirit.
Paul in Galatians 5:16 tells us that we must endeavor to walk after the Spirit and not the former fleshly lusts that caused us to sin when we weren’t saved yet.
Walking after the Spirit simply means to live a new life in complete obedience to God by forsaking your old sinful self which wants you to walk after the flesh.
You can only walk after the Spirit if you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Without Him, you won’t be able to walk after the Spirit to help thereby, live a godly life.
Walking after the Spirit is among the most important godly habits you need to have if you are to live godly in this present evil world.
Sadly, most Christians aren’t walking after the Spirit and this is evident by the sinful lifestyles they live in.
No wonder there is a lot of sexual immorality even among so-called believers in the church today.
The reason for this is most people don’t want to fully deny themselves and take up their crosses to follow Christ due to the love of self that’s present in their hearts.
But if you want to live a godly life, you must walk after the Holy Spirit and let Him guide you into all truths as He won’t ever lead you astray like your sinful flesh.

4. Faith.
Paul in Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it’s impossible to please God let alone receive anything from Him.
Faith is one of the main foundations of true Christianity because, without it, your Christianity is in vain and won’t amount to anything.
The devil knows that no wonder he sows seeds of unbelief in your life to weaken your faith in God. Remember, true Christianity is all about faith, not sight.
If you are moved by sight rather than by faith, your Christian life won’t stand the test of time and you are most likely to quit mid-way when things get hard.
The reason why most Christians are living a defeated Christian life is that real faith is missing in their lives which has adversely affected their walk with the Lord.
James says that if we want to receive anything from the Lord, we must approach Him with faith that He will do that which we have asked Him to do in due time.
If you lack faith and are double-minded as to whether the Lord can do what you have asked Him for, you won’t receive anything from Him.
Early Christians were able to do great exploits because of the unwavering faith they had in their God.
You too can do great exploits if you have faith in the Lord as our earlier Christians who lived before you had.

5. Obedience.
Living a life of obedience to the Lord and His word is what will enable you to live a life of godliness that glorifies Him and which is above sin.
One of the signs that will show that you are truly a godly person who is born again is that you will obey God’s word and live by it all the days of your life.
Obedience to our heavenly Father and His word is a very important habit that every person who claims to be godly must practice and live by daily.
You can’t live a godly life that pleases the Lord if you are not living in obedience to God’s word. Otherwise, you are just a fake Christian then.
Jesus Christ said in John 14:15 that if we truly love Him, we will keep His commandments which sadly most so-called Christians don’t even bother to keep.
Many believers claim to love Jesus but aren’t willing to obey His commandments which is sad indeed.
This clearly shows these people only have a form of godliness that 2 Timothy 3:5 talks about but in reality, aren’t true disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you can’t obey God’s Word, you won’t be able to live a godly life because you can’t live a life of godliness if you aren’t obeying what the bible says.
6. Pursuing Righteousness.
You can’t live godly in this present evil world if you are not making any efforts to pursue and follow after righteousness which is what godly living is all about.
Following after righteousness must be your daily habit if you are a true believer who claims to be a disciple of Christ because, without it, you won’t enter heaven.
If you are not pursuing righteousness, then it’s likely that you are not truly saved yet because if you are, living a life of righteousness will be your daily habit.
You can only desire to follow after righteousness if you are truly saved as genuine salvation brings a genuine transformation in one’s life.
Many people claim to be born-again but are not actively pursuing a life of holiness that characterizes a truly born-again Christian.
This is seen by the type of sinful lifestyles these people live and indulge in like there is no tomorrow.
Paul in 2 Timothy 2:22 encourages all true believers to flee all youthful lusts but follow and pursue righteousness.
I too also encourage you in the Lord to follow after righteousness and walk after the Spirit and not the former fleshly lusts that led you into sin in the first place.

7. Godly Love.
Love is one of the most cardinal virtues you must have as a Christian. Without it, your Christianity is in vain as true Christianity is founded upon love.
And this godly love Christ expects you to have and practice towards others is the selfless agape love that can’t simply be found in this world.
It’s a kind of love 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 talks about that is selfless without any selfish motives found in natural human love, especially in this selfish world we live in.
Without godly love, you want to be able to truly love others or your fellow brothers or sisters in the Lord the way Christ expects you to.
One thing you must understand as you are reading this, dear is all humans are inherently selfish and self-centered due to the selfish nature we are born with.
It’s this selfish nature we are all born with that makes us full of ourselves and can only be eradicated at the cross of Calvary when you become truly born again.
Only then will this Christ-like love become possible in your life that will empower you to be selfless, and love others without any ulterior motives (Rom 12:9.)
Final Remarks.
I hope the above 7 habits of a godly life will now help you develop godly habits that will help you to live a victorious Christian life that’s above sin and glorifies the Lord.
Conversely, if you still struggle with sin but want to live godly and have nothing to do with sin, you can be free today if you truly repent.
