The problem of sexual immorality in the church isn’t something new as this problem has always existed in both the old testament and the new testament since the fall of man.
Sexual immorality is a very grievous sexual sin that has ravaged and defiled the church today, which is supposed to be at the forefront of promoting sexual purity.
The apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:18 that we must flee fornication and sexual immorality because if we don’t do so, we are defiling and sinning against our own bodies.
By definition, sexual immorality is any kind of sexual relations one has outside the boundaries God has set that violates one’s human sexuality and sexual purity.
Sexual immorality includes sexual sins such as fornication, adultery, incest, etc., and any other perverted sexual relations such as homosexuality that are against God’s word.
God meant sex or sexual intercourse only to be performed between lawfully married people, which is between a man and a woman for procreation, enjoyment, and bonding between couples.
Any kind of sexual relations done outside that is considered sinful in God’s sight. This is why Hebrews 13:4 tells us that marriage is honorable in all and the marriage bed undefiled but adulterers and whores who defile their marriage bed with adultery will be judged.
Why Is Sexual Immorality Common In Church?
There are many reasons why sexual immorality and sexual perversion are now commonplace in the church today. The main reason why there is a lot of premarital sex or fornication in the church today is most people are not truly saved.
By that, I mean that many people who claim to be saved haven’t yet been truly born again and experienced a new birth experience that transforms one from the inside and makes one have the new nature of Christ.
Because of this, these people still have the old nature of sin active in them that makes them exhibit the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21 talks about that are fornication, adultery, and all other sexual perversions like pornography God forbid.
You need to understand that if you are not genuinely born again yet, you will walk after the flesh and fulfill its sinful desires as the new nature of Christ that Ephesians 4:24 talks about created in God’s likeness isn’t in you yet.
The new nature of Jesus Christ that’s righteous and holy can only be in you if you become genuinely bone again and have the new birth experience.
Only with this new nature of Christ Jesus in you will you be able to overcome sexual sin and the works of the flesh such as fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and other sexual perversions like pornography destroying many lives and relationships.
So, if you are not genuinely born again yet, I encourage you to do so today so that you can have the new nature of Jesus Christ in you that will help you overcome sexual sin or any sexual addictions you may have.
Only when you are genuinely born gain with the new nature of Christ in you that makes you a new creation in Him will you have self-control which is one of the vital 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit found in Galatians 5:22,23 to help you overcome any sexual temptation.

Moral Perversion.
Aside from most people not being genuinely born again, moral perversion is the reason why sexual immorality and fornication are now commonplace in the church today.
Moral perversion is the reason why most believers are struggling to maintain their sexual purity and it’s not uncommon these days to find professing Christians to have slept or had premarital sex before.
The matter is even made worse with the advent of pornography which most people claiming to be in the body of Christ struggle with secretly. I know this because I used to be one such person before.
Pornography has destroyed a lot of people and marriages today as it makes you have a distorted view of what sexual intimacy is all about in marriage. It makes you view women as objects for sex, which is degrading indeed.
God created sex to be enjoyed in the confines of marriage by both wife and husband alone in a dignified manner but pornography, which comes from lust, is all about satisfying one’s lustful desires only.
Other moral perversions like homosexuality and lesbianism are other reasons why sexual immorality in the church is common today and has been accepted as something normal.
It’s a very sad state of affair indeed that homosexuality and homosexual behavior is now accepted and viewed as normal in many backslidden churches today that are afraid to preach against it.
The Bible is very clear in Leviticus 18:22 that these kinds of sexual relations that are a total perversion of our human sexuality are forbidden as God made sex to be performed between man and woman in marriage.
It’s why we now see gay weddings in churches today, which have now become a trend. Still, the bible is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:9 that if you are such a sexually immoral person practicing these moral perversions, you won’t enter heaven.
How The Church Can Overcome Fornication?
There are many things the church or the body of Christ can do to overcome sexual immorality that is now a pandemic in the church.
One of the main things the church can do to overcome this sin, which also happened to be the problem in the Corinthian Church during the times of Paul, is to preach against this sin of sexual immorality.
Sadly, sin isn’t something commonly preached about in most churches today and the sin of fornication seems to have been given a free pass.
However, if the church is to overcome this sin, the church needs to be vocal about this sin and preach the importance of maintaining sexual purity, especially among young people in whom this sin of fornication is more prevalent.
Young people especially the youths need to be told that premarital sex is a sin and brings destructive consequences to those who commit it. They need to be told that sex is only meant for married people in marriage.
Secondly, the church needs to preach repentance and tell people involved in sexual sin that they need to stop defiling their bodies with sexual immorality as their body is a temple of God as 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 tells us.
People involved in sexual sins like fornication, adultery, incest, and other moral sexual perversions like pornography need to be warned of these sins with the consequences they come with and be encouraged to repent of them lest they get destroyed by them.

God Hates Fornication.
They need to be told that God hates it when we defile our bodies with fornication, as He never created us for that but wants us to keep our bodies He’s given us holy.
Unfortunately, the above things are not been done by the church today as most are just interested in attracting members. But a true church will always preach about sin regardless of whether members will like it or not.
The sin of sexual immorality and other moral perversions such as homosexuality needs to be preached today so that people repent before it’s too late as such sexually immoral people will end up in hell if they continue in their sinful lifestyle.
Only when the church starts preaching about this sin and discouraging people to abstain from fornication will this problem of sexual immorality be dealt with.
Most churches, however, are full of carnal and sensual pastors and preachers who themselves live in sexual sin which explains why such fake pastors don’t preach against this sin.
It is why now homosexuality isn’t condemned as an abomination in many fake churches today that now say that homosexual behavior is normal when God says in Leviticus 18:22 is an abomination.
However, the Lord Jesus Christ is clear on this issue that such fake pastors who don’t preach against sin along with their deceived carnal followers will in the end be cast in hell fire for misleading others and not warning others to repent.

Paul was very clear on how to deal with forinication.
‘But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:2
‘But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” 1 Corinthians 7:9
Instead the church has been pushing things in the opposite direction with this whole purity movement. Paul is very clear, the reason to marry is to have sex and control the desires. Will it work all the time, of course not. But you will lessen the fornication. The church should push marriage and teach how to make a good choice on who you marry.
True indeed but people still need to be told to have self-control as that’s one of the most important fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22,23 talks about instead of acting like animals.
