With that said, let’s look at the 7 things you must do if you want to crucify the flesh daily so that it doesn’t lead you into sin.
What Does It Mean To Crucify The Flesh Daily?
To crucify the flesh simply mean nailing the sinful desires of your sinful flesh on the cross of Jesus Christ so that they no longer control your life.
It implies fully surrendering all your fleshy desires to Christ and letting Him direct and control your life instead of letting your old self direct you so that you can live a life of righteousness.
And this is only possible by God’s grace because our sinful flesh will always want us to commit sinful deeds that are not in agreement with God’s will.
7 Practical Steps To Crucify The Flesh Daily.
Below are the 7 steps you will ever need to take for you to crucify your flesh daily so that it no longer controls your life or make you sin.
- Be Truly Born Again.
- Pray Daily.
- Read The Bible Daily.
- Deny Yourself.
- Practice Temperance.
- Be Filled With Grace.
- Ask God For A New Heart.
1. Be Truly Born Again.
To crucify the flesh daily as the apostle Paul wonderfully puts in in Galatians 5:24 is that you first need to be truly born again with a genuine and definite salvation experience.
The reason for this is because when you become truly born again by fully accepting the Lord Jesus Christ in your life as your personal Lord and saviour, you experience the new birth through Him.
And this new birth in Christ Jesus after salvation cause you to have the new nature of Christ in you that will enable you to walk after the Spirit and not the flesh. You will also now desire to walk after righteousness and not the sinful desires of your flesh
Also being born again makes you get rid of the old sinful nature responsible for making you fulfil the lustful desires of the flesh we are all born with that makes us naturally walk after the sinful desires of the flesh and not the Spirit.
With this new nature of Jesus Christ in you, now you will find it easy to crucify the flesh and its sinful desires and passions which made you commit various sins such as sexual immorality, fornication, drunkenness and so on.
But if you are not born again, you will find it difficult to crucify your sinful flesh and its sinful desires and passions which have a firm grip on your life.

2. Pray Daily.
You need to have an active prayer life if you truly desire to crucify the flesh daily that has wreaked havoc on your Christian life as prayer is a very important spiritual weapon you need to have in your Christian life as a believer or true Christian.
Ephesians 6:12-17 tells us that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but principalities spiritual forces of wickedness in high places by the pulling down of the mighty stronghold.
You must remember that crucifying and overcoming the flesh is a spiritual battle and spiritual warfare that can only be won with the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous which availeth much (James 5:16).
Without prayer, you won’t be able to overcome the sinful desires of your flesh that are responsible for leading you into sin time and again despite you trying not to sin.
And many people including Christian find it hard to crucify their flesh and its sinful desires and passions because they are too lazy to pray even just for 30 minutes but can spend the whole day on social media liking pictures and having vain conversations.
If you desire to crucify your flesh daily so that it doesn’t control your Christian life as a believer and hinder you live a godly life pleasing unto the Lord, prayer just needs to be your daily ritual dear.
3. Read The Bible Daily.
Reading and immersing yourself in God’s word goes a long way in helping you crucify the flesh daily as a believer so that you no longer fulfil its lustful desires but walk after the Spirit.
God’s word reminds us in Galatians 5:16 that we must not walk after the flesh but after the Spirit which is only possible if you read God’s word daily and apply it in your daily Christian life.
You can’t overcome or crucify your flesh if your spiritual life is void of God’s word because it’s God’s word that will give you the much-needed grace in helping you deny and crucify your flesh to follow after the Lord Jesus Christ which isn’t easy.
Many Christians wonder why they can’t have victory over the flesh but on the other hand, these same Christians are too lazy to read their bibles even for 30 minutes.
But these same people can easily be on social media or watch worldly T.V shows that aren’t helpful for their spiritual growth the whole day without getting tired.
You need to hide God word in your heart if you don’t want your flesh to lead you into sin which is why the Psalmist David said in Psalms 119:11-16 that he has hidden God’s word in his heart so that he might not sin against God by obeying his fleshy desires to sin.
4. Deny Yourself.
Self-denial is crucial in crucifying your flesh daily and self-denial includes denying the desires of the flesh no matter how good they feel.
One thing you must know is that your sinful flesh will always naturally desire to do things that are sinful and contrary to God’s word due to the Adamic sinful nature we are born with that naturally makes our flesh love the pleasures of sin and hate holiness.
No wonder our Lord Jesus Christ tells us in Luke 9:23 that anyone who will desire to come after Him must deny himself and take up his cross daily to follow him.
And denying and crucifying the flesh daily along with its sinful desires and passions is part of denying yourself and taking up your cross daily.
Sadly, most people including so-called Christians are unwilling to deny themselves because of how difficult, inconvenient and uncomfortable it is to the carnal sinful flesh which loves to indulge in the sinful pleasures of this world.
You must remember, that self-denial is part of being a true Christian and if you can’t do that, forget about being a true disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ.
5. Practice Temperance.
Temperance in everything you do as a believer is very crucial if you are to crucify the flesh daily so that Christ Jesus can reign supreme in your life instead.
Being temperate in biblical terms simply means that you practice self-control with the help of the Holy Spirit so that you don’t let the desires of your sinful flesh control and direct your life.
Galatians 5:22,23 tells that temperance is one of the crucial 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer who has been truly saved and has the Lord Jesus Christ reigning supreme in their life.
Sadly, many people including so-called believers lack temperance in their lives which is why they indulge themselves in the sinful deeds of their sinful flesh such as sexual immorality, drunkenness and so on.
All the sexual immorality you see which is now commonplace, especially among your people is a result of the lack of temperance in many young people who can’t control the immoral sinful desires of their flesh.
If you are to live a life of sexual purity in this morally corrupt and perverted current generation we live in when people are no longer afraid of flaunting and displaying their nakedness in public for all to see, temperance is what you need in your Christian life.
6. Be Filled With Grace.
For you to crucify your old self that comes with the Adamic sinful nature we are all born with, you need God’s grace in your life to help you do that as you can’t do it by yourself.
If you lack the grace of Jesus Christ in your life, you won’t be able to overcome the flesh and later on crucify it along with its sinful fleshy desires and passions responsible for lading you into sin.
This is because the old nature of sin is still active in your life which will make crucifying the selfish desires of your flesh difficult.
Titus 2:11,12 tells us that God’s grace that brings salvation and eternal life has appeared to everyone and it’s this grace you need that will help you deny ungodliness as well as crucify your flesh.
So, if you are struggling to crucify your flesh, all you need is to ask for this grace God promises in the above verse to help you conquer the flesh.
Otherwise, if your life isn’t filled with this special grace, you will have a hard time crucifying your sinful flesh so that you don’t obey its lustful and sinful desires.
7. Ask God For A New Heart.
Last but not least, if you truly desire to crucify the flesh daily along with its desires, you need to ask the Lord for the new heart He promises in Ezekiel 36:26.
The above verse promises that the Lord will give us a new heart and take away the stony sinful heart that comes with our sinful nature responsible for making us fulfil the lust and desires of the flesh.
One thing you must know is that the heart we all naturally have is sinful, deceitful and desperately wicked as Jeremiah 17:9 wonderfully sums it up about the nature of the heart of man.
And this carnal stony heart that comes with our sinful nature is what causes us to walk in the flesh and not the Spirit which is why we find it easy to sin.
But if your flesh is to be crucified, you need to have the new heart from our Lord Jesus Christ that is holy and righteous which will help you deny the flesh and follow righteousness instead.
If you don’t have this new heart yet, you need to ask the Lord to give you this new heart by giving your life to Him which means that you need to be born again and ask Jesus Christ into your life so that He can remove your sinful heart and replace it with His.
Now that you have known the 7 steps you need to take to crucify the flesh daily, it’s now your turn to apply what you have read so that overcoming the flesh becomes a reality in your life.
