10 Signs Of An Impure Heart [Unregenerated By Christ].

There are many signs of an impure heart that a person will show if their hearts have not yet been purified and made clean by the blood of the Loam that cleanses one from all sin.

In this article today, I will list the 10 major signs that you must be on the lookout for with reference to bible verses to help you gauge if your heart is pure or not.

Without wasting much of your precious time, below are the 10 clear signs of an impure heart that will show if your heart is dirty and rotten inside with sin.

What’s An Impure Heart?

An impure heart is a heart that has allowed sin to enter into its life. It may have been lying, lusting, stealing, or anything else that violates God’s word. Sin begins in the heart, and when it gets inside us and takes up residence, it defiles us making us impure in the process.

Jesus said that sin enters our hearts through our eyes, ears, or thoughts. You can guard your heart as Proverbs 4:23 tells us to do by controlling what you see and hear and by keeping your thoughts pure and confessing those that aren’t.

The Bible tells us that we can only have a pure heart if we ask Jesus Christ to come to live in us. If we do so, He will cleanse our sinful hearts so that they can be made pure by His blood.

What Makes A Person Impure In Heart?

There are many things that make a person impure in heart, and all of these things keep a person from seeing God. Jesus said that if we look at a woman to lust after her, we already have committed adultery with her in our hearts (Matthew 5:28).

For this reason alone, a person who looks at a woman to lust after her cannot be pure in heart and all this is because of the sin that’s in them.

Sin is the number one cause of impurity in one’s heart and why our hearts are naturally evil as they are defiled by sin and can only be made pure by the washing of the blood of the Lamb.

10 Clear Signs Of An Impure Heart.

Below are the 10 signs that show you have an impure heart causing you to do all manner of evil things you even wonder about at times.

  • Evil Desires.
  • Love Of Worldly Things.
  • Love Of Sin.
  • Hate.
  • Lust.
  • Distractions During Prayer.
  • Pride.
  • Deceitfulness.
  • The Love Of Money.
  • Inbred Sinful Nature.

1. Evil Desires.

One of the signs that will show your heart is impure and needs cleansing is that your heart will be filled with evil and sinful desires that will defile you from within.

These evil desires could be those of murder, sexual immorality, and the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21 talks about which is why Jesus Christ tells us that it’s from the evil heart that isn’t pure where all evil desires come from in Matthews 15:19-21.

So, if you are struggling with evil desires in your heart, you need to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to give you a pure heart that’s free from evil desires of the flesh.

2. Love Of Worldly Things.

The love of this world and the things that are in this world 1 John 2:15 talks about will be another sign that will show if you have an impure heart that hasn’t been washed by the blood of the Lamb.

And this will be so if you are not truly born again yet as in that state, your heart will be all about indulging itself in the things of this world which is why you will find the things of this world very attractive and hard to give up.

You can only stop loving the things of this world if your heart is purified by the blood of the Lamb. Otherwise, you will love the things of this world if you are not saved yet with the new heart of purity that’s free from evil thoughts and evil desires.

3. Love Of Sin.

It’s just a matter of fact if your heart is impure, you will love sin due to the sinful nature of your heart you were born within this world that will make you love sin and hate righteousness.

As you may know, all manner of evil you can ever imagine comes from the heart (Matthews 15:19). So, when you see people doing evil things in life, all there trying to show you is what’s is already in their sinful and impure unregenerated hearts.

But if your heart gets purified and regenerated by the Lord Jesus Christ, you will no longer love sin. Instead, you will begin to love righteousness and hate the sin you once loved when Christ Jesus gives a clean heart to you when you become born again.

4. Hate.

An impure heart that hasn’t been regenerated by the Holy Spirit will naturally be filled with hate even for no apparent reason which is why haters exist in this world.

You may wonder why some people hate you for no reason but don’t be surprised as the people who do that do so because their evil hearts are filled with hate as it’s in their nature to do so.

God’s word in 1 John 4:20,21 warns us that anyone who hates his brother or fellow human being, especially without a cause is a murderer and this is who haters are and if you are such a person, you need to have your heart cleansed for all the hate your heart may be harboring.

5. Lust.

Your heart will also be filled with all manner of sinful and lustful desires of the flesh if it’s impure. All the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21 talk about in the New Testament will be in your heart.

The lust that most people have these days is the reason why sexual immorality and all manner of moral perversions such as pornography are commonplace today even among the so-called sons and daughters of Zion in the church who are supposed to be pure and free from lust.

1 Timothy 5:2 tells us that we must treat our sisters in the Lord especially if you are a brother with all purity and not with the lustful intent to sin against them by wanting to unveil their nakedness through sexual immorality.

6. Distractions During Prayer.

Jesus Christ tells us in Matthews 6:5,6 that when we pray, we must not be like the Pharisees who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others as they already have received their reward.

But whenever you pray, you must go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. If we are distracted when we pray and think about other things, it’s a sign our heart needs purifying.

Our mind wanders and we lose focus during prayer because we don’t want to be there with God showing that our attention is elsewhere i.e. on ourselves or on other things of this world that are more interesting to us at that moment than prayer.

7. Pride.

Pride is among the signs of an impure heart that will manifest in a person whose heart hasn’t yet been purified by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ which makes one have a heart of humility.

As a result, you will struggle with pride deep down inside your heart which will make you prideful, haughty in spirit, and high-minded the bible discourages in Romans 11:20.

If your heart is full of pride, you will always want to see yourself as better than others or look down on others. In addition, you will also hate being corrected when wrong if pride is still in your heart but remember, pride goes before destruction as Proverbs 16:18 tells us.

8. Deceitfulness.

Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked above all things and evil beyond all comprehension which is why we desperately do manner of sick and evil things.

It is estimated that we have anywhere between 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day and that 70% of them are negative or evil (Proverbs 23:7). If that doesn’t blow your mind, then you probably aren’t thinking about it enough. We think about murder, hate, lust, and greed. You name it.

The most dangerous thing about an impure heart is that we don’t even know how impure it is until God shows us. When we look at our own hearts before salvation, we may see ourselves as “good people” compared to others, which is deceitfulness at work there.

9. The Love Of Money.

The love of money that is the root of all evil as 1 Timothy 6:10 tells us will be another sign that will show if a person’s heart lacks the purity of Christ in it.

Many people due to the love of money and covetousness in their hearts have departed from their faith and have pierced themselves into many sorrows all because of wanting to have money which is just a piece of paper and chemicals on it at all costs.

It’s very disheartening to see how the love of money can ruin people, especially those who were once strong in their Christian faith but are no longer so due to the love of money in their hearts that wasn’t dealt with on the Cross of Calvary.

10. Inbred Sinful Nature.

Last but not least, the inbred sinful nature we are all born with embedded in our hearts that is shown in our evil deeds and desires will be a clear sign that will show your heart is impure and in need of cleansing.

The sinful nature of our hearts is shown by fleshly desires and pleasures. We can see this in the lust for material things and sex outside of marriage or anything that goes against God’s will for our lives (1 John 2:16).

If you are struggling with sin, it’s because your heart is still in need of purification from all the sinful desires of your flesh that come with the sinful heart you are naturally born with. With the help of God’s grace, you can have a new heart if you only ask and mean it wholeheartedly.
