What Is Spiritual Consistency {& Why Is It Vital?}

What is spiritual consistency? And why does spiritual consistency matter to a Christian or believer in their Christian walk with our Lord Jesus Christ?

These are the questions this post will address. It’s just a matter of fact that spiritual consistency is vital in your spiritual life and spiritual growth as a believer.

Without wasting much of your precious time, let’s look at the question, “what is spiritual consistency?” To help you understand why you need to be spiritually consistent if you are to win this Christian race set before you.

What Is Spiritual Consistency?

Spiritual consistency simply means being spiritually consistent in the things of the Lord and anything relating to your Christian faith as a believer in Christ Jesus.

It also means living a consistent Christian life comprised of holiness and righteousness, not a life of rising and falling into the same sins you repent of all the time that many Christians seem to struggle with.

If you are a spiritually consistent Christian, you will continuously experience spiritual growth in your Christian life and grow in the things, grace, and wisdom of our Lord Jesus Christ as commanded in 2 Peter 3:18 in the new testament.

God wants us to be consistent in our Christian lives and by His grace, we can do it, the apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:58 that we need to be steadfast and always abounding in the work of the Lord.

And this can only happen if you are spiritually consistent in your Christian life. Implying living lives of non-compromise in your Christian walk.

We Are To Continually Grow In Our Faith.

Spiritual consistency is also a term used by many Christians to describe the process by which we grow in our faith. It is a difficult process, because it requires us to examine our beliefs and actions, and then change them if they are not consistent with our faith.

The concept of “spiritual consistency” has been described as a “process of continual growth in one’s spirituality and faith in God.” It is also a process that includes self-examination, repentance, spiritual growth, and forgiveness.

The goal of this process is to become more like Jesus Christ, who was consistent in his teachings, behavior, and lifestyle (see Luke 6:46; John 13:34-35).

To be spiritually consistent, we must first evaluate our lives based on what we believe God’s Word teaches about the Christian life. Then we must repent of any sin or other sinful attitudes that are inconsistent with those teachings (Eph 1:4-6; 2 Cor 7:10).

This means recognizing our sinfulness and turning from it (Hebrews 12:1-2). We should also forgive others who have offended us against God’s will (Ephesians 4:31; Colossians 3:13). Finally, we should strive to do what God commands us to do.

Why Is Spiritual Consistency Important?

Spiritual consistency is an important aspect of Christian discipleship. We are to be consistent with our own beliefs and our behavior. The Bible tells us to be holy, so we should strive to live a holy life.

The Bible puts forth many standards of godliness that we should follow to be true Christians. For example, if you want to be a Christian, then you must worship God, obey his commands, and submit yourself to him as your Lord and Savior (John 12:45).

If you want to serve Christ, then you must love your neighbor as yourself (Matt 22:39) as we as being willing to obey everything Christ tells us to do. Spiritual consistency is also important because it will help us grow in our relationship with Christ.

When we are consistent with our beliefs and actions, it shows that we really understand what it means to follow Jesus Christ. It also shows that we truly want others to know about Jesus Christ and how wonderful He is by our lifestyles.

You are also to be spiritually consistent so that you can make heaven in the end. If you are not living a consistent Christian life, you can be assured of not making it to heaven when you especially die in your backslidden state.

Spiritual Consistency Is Vital For Spiritual Growth.

Spiritual consistency is also important to a Christian because it is the basis of all spiritual growth. If we are not spiritually consistent, then we will not be able to make progress in our spiritual walk with Christ.

As we earlier saw in 2 Peter 3:18 we are to consistently grow in the things of the Lord, grace, and His knowledge which can only be so if you are spiritually consistent in your Christian life.

For that to happen, you need to regularly read God’s word daily and pray daily during your quiet time. Being consistent in those areas many find a problem with will go a long way in helping to live a consistent Christian life.

If you are not living a consistent Christian life, you will find it hard to be spiritually consistent in your Christian faith on your Christian journey especially if your prayer life leaves much to be desired.

How To Be Spiritually Consistent?

There is no doubt that we need to be spiritually consistent as Christians. The Bible says that our faith in Christ should not waver as we face life’s challenges. We can’t let our emotions lead us into sin, or we’ll find ourselves backsliding and falling away from God.

But, how do we stay on track and avoid the temptations that lead us astray? The first thing to do if you are to be spiritually consistent is by reading God’s word daily.

Reading God’s word daily will help you stay grounded in the things of God so that you are not led astray as God’s word will act as a lamp to your feet lightening up your paths before you so that you don’t stumble and fall into sin (Psalms 119:105).

If you don’t read your bible daily, you will be spiritually weak and malnourished. Henceforth, you will lack the grace you need to be a consistent Christian especially when hardships and trials of faith come into your life.

As a Christian, you need to keep standing in the Lord by living a life of holiness and occupying till He comes as our Lord Jesus Christ commands us in Revelations 2:25 in the new testament.

Prayer Is Crucial For Spiritual Consistency.

The other thing you need to do to be spiritually consistent is to have a strong prayer life as prayer is what will help you keep standing in the Lord.

Prayer is vital in your life as a believer as it’s a vital spiritual weapon that will help you overcome every temptation and trial that comes your way in your Christian walk with Christ (Luke 22:46).

If you don’t pray, you will be spiritually too weak to overcome even the simplest temptations Satan throws at you. Lack of prayer is the reason many Christians fail to live consistent Christian lives that are above sin and reproach.

Remember, only through prayer and God’s grace upon your life will you be able to be a consistent Christian and that is made possible through prayer that acts as a communication link between you and God.
