There are many things you need to do on your part if you want to become a true believer of our Lord Jesus Christ who has a genuine relationship with Christ and bears fruit.

Being a true believer or true Christian is more than a mere religion or just professing by mouth but is about having a genuine relationship with Christ Jesus.

Many people claim to be believers but most, sadly don’t know what it really means to be a true believer who has a genuine relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are such a person, this ends today as this post will show you how you can become a true believer who is sure of making heaven should you die today unexpectedly.

With that said, let’s look at how to be a true believer who is heaven-ready and saved by grace with references to bible verses in both the old testament and the new testament.

How To Be A True Believer In 5 Easy Steps.

Below are the 5 simple steps you need to take if you want to become a true believer today and not a false believer who just plays religion.

  • Believe On The Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Truly Repent Of Your Sins & Confess Them.
  • Be Truly Born Again ASAP.
  • Deny Yourself.
  • Resolve To Follow Christ To The End.

1. Believe On The Lord Jesus Christ.

The first thing you need to do to become a genuine believer who is heaven-ready is that you need to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the cross with all your heart.

You need to believe that Jesus Christ is indeed who He says He is and that only He can save you from sin along with the horrific consequences it brings and grant you salvation and eternal life.

John 6:47 tells us that if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation and eternal life, you will be saved and have everlasting life in you. If you don’t, you have no life, and God’s wrath will be upon you.

If you don’t believe that Jesus Christ is who He claims to be, you won’t be saved and have the salvation that brings about eternal life that will enable you to spend eternity with God in heaven when you die.

Instead, you will have to go to hell where all unbelievers will spend the rest of their eternity when they die. Don’t let this be you as today is the day of salvation and don’t wait for tomorrow to be saved as tomorrow may be too late.

2. Truly Repent Of Your Sins & Confess Them.

After believing in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation by accepting Him as your personal Lord and savior, you now need to truly repent of all your sins and vow not to return to them (Acts 3:19-26).

Implying that you need to change your mind on sin and God by choosing to turn away from your sinful lifestyle and return to the Lord for the forgiveness of your sins.

After truly repenting of your sins, you need to forsake them as well by vowing not to return to them. Only then, as Proverbs 28:13 tells us will you be able to obtain mercy and forgiveness of your sins.

If you find yourself returning to the former sinful lifestyle you repented of, it shows your repentance isn’t genuine as genuine repentance leads to one forsaking and never returning to their former sinful lifestyle.

The reason why most people can’t be true believers who live victorious lives that are free from sin is that they don’t truly repent of their sins due to the love of sin still present in their hearts making them unwilling to forsake their life of sin.

3. Be Truly Born Again ASAP.

After following the above two steps, you now need to be truly born again by the water and the Spirit as Jesus Christ tells us in John 3:1-5 as, without that, you won’t be able to enter heaven.

Being genuinely born again is crucial because it’s what enables you to experience the new birth that brings about the new nature of Christ Jesus in you Ephesians 4:24 talks about being created in God’s likeness and righteousness.

It’s this new nature of Christ you obtain when you become a true born-again Christian that will enable you to become a true believer with the new life characterized by holiness and righteousness.

Nevertheless, if you are not truly born again yet even if you religiously go to church every Sunday, you can’t be a true believer who lives a life of righteousness as the old sinful nature we are all born with will still be active in your life.

You need to understand that you can only be a genuine believer if you have this new birth experience that transforms you from the inside and makes you a new creation in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17) via the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

4. Deny Yourself.

The fourth thing you need to do after doing the 3 things above is that you now need to deny yourself to follow Jesus Christ even if it costs you.

In Luke 9:23, Jesus tells us that anyone who desires to come after Him must deny themselves, take up their crosses daily, and follow Him which is what true discipleship is all about. Failure to do that makes you unfit to be His disciple.

You can’t be a genuine believer if you are unwilling to deny yourself for the sake of Christ. Only fake followers and believers fail to deny themselves for the sake of Christ and their Christian faith.

All true believers live lives of self-denial and if you are to be a genuine believer who understands what true discipleship and being a true Christian is all about, you just have to deny yourself even if it’s inconvenient.

It is why the apostle Paul tells us in Romans 6:6 that the old sinful self that makes us not want to live a life of obedience to God and His word needs to be crucified with Christ so that we are no longer slaves to our sins and self.

5. Resolve To Follow Christ To The End.

Last but not least, once you become a genuine believer after following the above 4 steps which you should be by now if you followed the steps above, you now need to resolve in your heart to follow Christ, no matter what.

Implying that you must be willing to follow Jesus Christ even if things are difficult in your Christian life and not to let hardships make you give up on Christ or your faith even when others give up left, right, and center.

You need now to not turn back to the world you have left behind as the cross is before you that bids and commands all your attention and consecration to your Master. Immerse yourself in reading God’s word that will help you be established in Him.

If you choose to turn back as others have done, it just means that you are not serious about following Christ and making heaven when you die.

Remember, Jesus Christ tells us in Matthews 24:13 that only those who do not give up their faith and endure to the end are the ones who will ultimately be saved and manage to enter heaven. So, don’t turn back once you decide to follow Christ, please.
