It’s trusting that He knows what’s best for you even when it doesn’t make sense at the time. Surrendering is knowing that He loves you more than anything else in this world and that His plan for your life will never fail.

May this article on how to surrender to God help you fully give your life to God by letting Him take charge of it known that all will be well with your soul in the end if you trust the Lord.

Why Is Surrendering To God Hard?

Surrendering to God is hard because it’s scary. When you surrender, you give up control over your life. You let go of the steering wheel and put your trust in God.

Surrendering to God is hard because we want to be able to control our own destiny and believe that we can make things happen by ourselves if we try hard enough and work diligently. We want to believe that if we do everything right, then things will go our way.

Surrendering to God means giving up all this control and trusting Him with our lives by accepting that He is sovereign over all things and that He has a plan for us that is bigger than anything we could ever imagine on our own (Ephesians 1:4-6).

It also means believing that even though His plan may not always make sense right now, it will eventually bear fruit in our lives if we allow Him to do so.

How To Surrender To God In 5 Steps.

  • Know Who You Are.
  • Realize You Are Nothing Without Him.
  • Give Your Life To Jesus Christ.
  • Crucify Your Flesh In Christ.
  • Submit Your Life To God’s Will.

1. Know Who You Are.

Before you can surrender to God, you have to know who you are. In our culture, we’re always looking for approval from other people and trying to get our worth from them.

But when you know who you are in Christ, it’s impossible to be manipulated by other people or by the world. If you’re feeling insecure, ask yourself: Am I living in a way that reflects God’s image?

Or am I living in a way that reflects the world’s image of me? Do I act like a child of God, or do I act like a child of the world? Knowing who you are also means that you are nothing without Charts but everything with Him.

This is why it’s so important to know your identity as a believer and what it means to live out of your position as an adopted son or daughter of God (John 3:3). As John says in 1 John 4:17-18: “God loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

That means when we were born again, we became children of God through Christ Jesus’ blood sacrifice on the cross. We can’t earn this; we don’t deserve this; but by faith in Jesus as our Savior, we’ve been given it.

2. Realize You Are Nothing Without Him.

Another thing that will help you to surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ is realizing that you are nothing without Him and that your sufficiency isn’t in yourself but God as the apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:5.

Jesus Christ tells us in John 15:1-5 in the New Testament that only when we abide in Him can we bring for good fruits and that without Him, we can literally do nothing at all.

Coming into terms with knowing that without God you are nothing will make it easy for you to give your life to Him as you know that only He can help you accomplish what you desire in life.

But if you don’t realize that you are nothing without God through your pride and false self-confidence in yourself, you won’t see any need of surrendering your life to Him as you will see no need or benefit of doing so, anyway.

This is the case with many people who think that they don’t need God in their lives and that they are fine the way they are until tragedy strikes which makes them realize that only God can deliver them out of the mess they are in now. Don’t be that person.

3. Give Your Life To Jesus Christ.

The other thing you need to do for you to surrender to God is by fully giving your life to the Lord Jesus Christ by believing in Him and accepting Him in your life as your personal Lord and savior through the prayer of repentance so that you can have salvation and eternal life.

Implying that you must now let Jesus Christ have total control of your life and not yourself. Naturally, it is difficult to surrender to God because of our carnal sinful nature and self that’s filled with its own selfish sinful ways and hates to submit to God.

Being filled with our own sinful ways as Proverbs 14:14 tells us in the Old Testament is the reason why we naturally find it difficult to surrender to God, as we don’t want anyone telling us what to do with our lives.

Surrendering your life wholly to Jesus Christ requires great faith and trust in Him that He knows what’s best for our lives which He does.

You must remember that you have nothing to lose when you give your life to Jesus Christ as Satan may want you to believe but everything to gain such as salvation and eternal life that will enable you to spend eternity with Him in heaven when you die.

4. Crucify Your Flesh In Christ.

Crucifying your sinful flesh and its desires is another thing you need to do so that you can easily surrender your life to God by letting Christ Jesus live in you as Paul states in Galatians 2:20.

Crucifying the flesh simply means denying, depriving your flesh of all its sinful desires, choosing to obey God’s word, and following Christ instead, even when it feels uncomfortable.

It also includes denying yourself and taking up your cross daily, which isn’t always comfortable and pleasant to our carnal flesh which always wants comfort as Jesus Christ commands everyone who desires to come after Him in Luke 9:23.

Naturally, our sinful flesh always what’s to do things that please and gratify itself even when those things are sinful and contrary to God’s word such as sexual immorality now common place even in the church today.

However, when you choose to surrender to God, you choose to let go of wanting to fulfill the carnal and sinful desires of your flesh even when it’s uncomfortable for the flesh to do but instead choose to do what God wants you to do as written in His word.

5. Submit Your Life To God’s Will.

Finally and yet importantly, if you are to surrender your life to God fully, you also need to submit to His will, plan and purpose for your life by faith even when you at times see no sense in it.

God’s word tells us in James 4:7 that we must submit to God and resist the devil so that He can draw close to us and this includes surrendering your life to God’s will.

Only when you let go of your self-will that wants to do things its own way will you be able to live a surrendered Christian life that God wants you to live which brings glory and honor to Him.

Many people including Christians find it hard to fully surrender and submit to God’s will because there are some things in their lives they are not willing to let go of just yet.

Moreover, as a believer or disciple of Jesus Christ, you must remember that your life isn’t your own but of your Master which is why you just can’t live however you want like the heathens who know not God.

Conclusion.

I hope the above post on how to surrender to God will now help you fully surrender your life to God so that He can change it for the better. Remember, you have nothing to lose, dear when you give your life to Jesus Christ. Just do it if you haven’t done so yet in repentance.

  1. This was a very good read. After many years of being saved, I have decided to truly surrender. I feel as though this time is the last. I don’t want to surrender over again as I have before. I am a tired older man now and pray that the lord will guide me through this. I have been in control of my life for quite some time now and am pretty tired. Satan has had a stronghold. I cannot think of otherwise. Now it is in His hands that I hold.

  2. The fear of letting go was intense. I choose to let God have my life. It’s worth the pain and suffering. Only when I renew my mind. I am able to see the benefits.

God, have your way with me,
