Why Does God Bless The Wicked? [5 Reasons Why].

Why does God bless the wicked? This is the commonly asked question by most Christians who see wicked people who are seemingly prospering in their lives.

There are many reasons why God can allow wicked people to enjoy some of His blessings here on earth but that doesn’t mean they won’t face judgment if they don’t repent.

You need to understand that wicked people can be prosperous and successful as well as God wills it. If you are wondering why the wicked seem to prosper and be blessed in life you are not the first one.

In fact, King David asked the same question in Psalms 73:1-5 as to why the wicked prospered while the righteous suffered but was later reminded not to envy the prosperity of the wicked, which is, but for a season.

In this article today, we are going to find out the 5 major reasons why God allows the wicked to prosper at times with references to bible verses in both the old testament and the new testament.

5 Reasons Why God May Bless The Wicked.

Below are the 5 main reasons why God may allow the wicked or a bad person to prosper or to be blessed with health, prosperity, and finances.

  • It’s His Nature To Do So.
  • He Wants Them To Repent.
  • The Law Of Sowing And Reaping.
  • God’s Common Blessings Are Universal.
  • God’s Grace And Mercy.

1. It’s His Nature To Do So.

One of the major reasons why the Lord may allow the wicked to enjoy the blessings He’s made available to every person on earth is because it’s His nature to do so.

In Psalms 145:9, we are told that the Lord is good to all and merciful to all including evil people who seemingly don’t deserve His goodness and blessings as God’s goodness is unconditional unlike man’s that’s always conditional.

Very often, in our carnal sinful nature, we usually want the wicked to suffer for their wickedness but God has something else in mind concerning them.

As wicked as a person can be, God still loves that person and wants them to come to Him in repentance through His Son, Jesus Christ and one of the methods He uses to draw the wicked to Himself is by showing them underserved love and blessings to them.

In fact, this method has proven successful many times where the most wicked people with hardened hearts were finally softened by God’s unconditional goodness shown to them and repented of their wicked ways to return to the Lord.

2. He Wants Them To Repent.

The other reason why God allows the wicked to enjoy His common grace and blessings He’s made available to all is because He wants them to repent and realize that there is no benefit in being wicked and pleasing the devil.

Romans 2:4 tells us that it’s God’s goodness that leads to repentance. That bible verse goes on to further say that we must not despise the kindness, mercy, forbearance, and longsuffering of God by continuing to live in willful sin.

Our Lord Jesus Christ goes on to further say in Matthews 5:45 that God in His unconditional goodness makes the rain fall on both the righteous and the wicked and that He lets the sun shine on both the just and the unjust.

It’s this unmerited goodness of God that is capable of softening the hearts of the wicked to finally forsake their wicked ways and come to Jesus Christ for salvation in repentance by faith.

I am sure if you are reading this, you have been a wicked person before or still are but have seen the undeserved blessings of the Lord in your life that finally made you change your mind on God if you are truly saved as you are reading this.

3. The Law Of Sowing And Reaping.

Another reason why it may seem that the wicked are being blessed with success and prosperity is the law of sowing and reaping we find in Galatians 6:7.

The above verse tells us that we all reap what we saw whether good or bad. So, if the wicked are hardworking and diligent in their secular life, they will succeed as well and appear to be blessed with financial success and prosperity.

You need to understand that the law of sowing and reaping applies to everyone whether you are a wicked person or not. Implying that everyone who applies the bible principles of financial success and prosperity will succeed and prosper in life.

However, this doesn’t mean that the wicked won’t reap the fruits of their wicked deeds in due time as God’s word has made it clear in Proverbs 11:21 that the wicked will not go unpunished because their earthy prosperity is just but for a season.

Yes, they may seem to be prospering in this life but will finally be brought to justice and cast into the lake of fire if they don’t repent of their wickedness and reject God’s love and goodness that was shown to them while on earth.

4. God’s Common Blessings Are Universal.

Sometimes, when you see the wicked prospering and enjoying their lives you need to understand that God’s common blessings are universal rather than question why God is letting the wicked prosper and enjoy life as the Israelites did in Malachi 2:17.

You need to understand that God’s blessings come in two packages namely the common blessings and blessings specifically reserved for the righteous.

The former happens to all mankind whether they are wicked or not. Some common blessings that happen to everyone are good health, secular success, prosperity, financial success, etc. except that the blessings of the wicked are restricted to this life only.

While the latter is only reserved for the righteous, which are good success, salvation, eternal life, peace that surpasses all understanding, financial blessings and prosperity that don’t come with any sorrow, etc.

If you are a righteous man, you must know that eternal life is the greatest blessing you will ever have that surpasses all the worldly blessings evil people will ever have as it will enable you to spend eternity with God in heaven when you die where there is no suffering or death.

5. God’s Grace And Mercy.

Last and not least, the blessings that the wicked and those who despise God may seem to enjoy are because of God’s grace and mercies upon their lives they may be boasting about.

As we saw earlier in Psalms 145:9 that the Lord’s goodness and mercies extend to everyone which is why He permits the wicked to get a sip and taste of His goodness so that peradventure they may turn to Him.

We are also told in Psalms 103:8 that the Lord is slow to anger but rich in mercy and longsuffering further explaining why God may not punish the wicked immediately even as they partially enjoy His goodness.

If the Lord never extended His unconditional love, grace, mercy, and goodness, none of us will ever know what unconditional love is and what true love and goodness are all about.

The fact that the Lord is indiscriminately good to everyone is what makes Him who He is unlike us fallen humans who can only be good to others who are good to us and benefit us in some way which isn’t true goodness as far as Christ Jesus is concerned (Luke 6:32,33).

Conclusion.

I hope the above reasons for the question, “why does God bless the wicked?” will finally help you understand why God permits the wicked to enjoy good things in life sometimes.

However, you need to understand that all that evil people enjoy in this world are temporal and are only limited in this life and have no blessings of eternal life as the righteous have.
