The question of whether can a person be saved and not know it is a question that we have all asked ourselves at some point or another. It is one of the most difficult questions to answer.
In my personal opinion, there are different ways to be saved and not know it. The bible says that salvation is by grace through faith alone and that one must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation.
The problem with this statement is what does it mean to believe? Most people interpret this as having faith in God but there are many questions about what it means to believe in God.
In the previous post, I discussed the concept of faith and how it is defined as believing something even if you cannot be certain of it or haven’t seen it (Hebrews 11:1).
For example, you can have faith that there are no monsters under your bed even if you don’t know for sure because there could be a monster hiding under your bed right now.
This kind of faith is called “faith without evidence” because there’s nothing material that supports or verifies one’s belief; however, this doesn’t mean that all beliefs without evidence must be false.
If someone has enough evidence to convince them that something is true, then they may still believe without being able to verify their belief with material proof such as seeing an angel.
So, to answer the question of whether can a person be saved and not know it, we will first look at what the bible says about the assurance of salvation and eternal life.
Can You Be Saved And Not Know It?
To answer the question of whether can a person be saved and not know it, we need to look into God’s word and what it says concerning the assurance of salvation.
Personally, based on what I have read in the bible, I think the answer to that question is a yes or no. Yes, in the sense that when you are truly saved and have a definite salvation experience in your life, you will know it for sure.
This will be so because the Holy Spirit of God as Romans 8:16 says will bear witness with your spirit or inner man that you are truly saved, have eternal life and that you are now God’s child.
You must know that there is a big difference between being truly saved and just feeling saved. The former is a definite experience that will be evident in your life by the good fruits you will bear.
While the latter is all about feelings without any definite salvation experience and if you are in the latter group, you won’t see any real change in your life nor will produce the good fruits of righteousness that come with genuine salvation.

Assurance Of Salvation.
And a no if you haven’t yet understood what the assurance of salvation in Christ Jesus means. Assurance of salvation simply means that you know beyond any reasonable doubt that you are truly saved.
With this assurance, you know that even if you were to face sudden death today, you will be ushered into heaven immediately to spend eternity with God, our Lord Jesus Christ, the holy angels and the redeemed saints of all ages.
If you are a brand new convert, you will at times for a short while doubt if you are saved because of the lack of knowledge about the assurance of salvation.
But as you read God’s word more, that doubt will eventually go because the Holy Spirit is now dwelling in your life and it’s this same Holy Spirit that will confirm and verify that you are truly saved and God’s child (Romans 8:16, John 6:47).
You must bear in mind that this witness of the Holy Spirit will not be possible if you don’t have a definite salvation experience that brings about the new nature of Christ Jesus on every truly repentant sinner who’s reopened of their sins.

Why Do Most People doubt Their Salvation?
Many people including believers doubt their salvation at times in their Christian life and the reason for this is that most people haven’t yet known about the assurance of salvation 1 John 5:12,13 promises concerning eternal life.
The other thing that causes many people to doubt their salvation is listening to the lies of Satan that they are not saved because of how horrible their past sinful lifestyle was.
You must know that Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Romans 12:10) and he will try to convince that there is no way God can forgive you based on what you did in the past if you heed to his lies
If you become a genuine believer who’s truly saved and has obtained forgiveness of their sins by trusting in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, you will certainly be sure of your salvation.
This is because if you are truly saved, you will have a witness to verify that you are saved and that witness will be God’s spirit as we see in Romans 8:16 we talked about earlier on.

How Do I Know if I Am Saved?
The Bible says you will have assurance when you have received Christ and His finished work on the cross. The apostle John says in 1 John 5:12, “He who has the Son has life but he does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
You will also know that you are saved from death and the eternal punishment in hell sin brings upon a sinner by the witness that God’s Spirit will bear with your own spirit as we see in Romans 8:16-12.
Thirdly, you will also know that you are saved when God gives you peace with Himself. In Romans 5:1 Paul says to those who are saved and justified by faith, will have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Additionally, you will know that you are saved by the kind of new lifestyle you will start living due to the new birth you have experienced in Christ Jesus that brings about the new nature.
And it’s with this new nature of Christ in you will you now live a life of holiness and righteousness which will enable you to finally enter heaven when you close your eyes in death (Matthews 5:8).
