Who Is A Spiritual Person?

A spiritual person is simply someone with a spiritual mind that has been renewed by Christ Jesus thereby making that person mind the spiritual things of God and not the things of the flesh.

Unlike natural man who only minds carnal things, someone who is spiritual will mind spiritual things and will have their affections set on heavenly things and not earthy perishable things (Colossians 3:2).

Implying that things that please the flesh will not be appealing to a spiritual man with the new birth of Christ as he’s led and directed by the Holy Spirit and not the flesh.

Below are the 13 characteristics of a spiritual person who is truly born again by the water and the spirit with the new birth and nature of Jesus Christ in them.

1. Filled With The Holy Spirit.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit are one of the major characteristics of a spirit man or spiritual person who has been truly born again.

And it’s this Holy Spirit Jesus Christ promised is in John 16:13 that leads and directs a spiritual person in all truths and acts as a comforted in times of hardships, persecution and trials of faith.

On the other hand, if you are not a spiritual person with the new birth of Christ Jesus, you will be carnally minded as the Holy Spirit has not yet dwelt in you or transformed you from the inside out, dear.

We are told by the apostle Paul in Romans 8:6-8 that being spiritually minded is life while being carnally minded is death and if you are a spiritual person, you will be spiritually minded and dwell on spiritual things and not on things of the flesh.

Being spiritually minded is what enables a spiritual man or spiritual woman to set their affections on heavenly things and not corruptible earthly thins as carnal people do (Colossians 3:2).

Walking by faith and not by sight is among the major characteristics of a spiritual person that someone who is spiritually minded will manifest.

When you walk by faith and not by sight, you won’t allow external circumstances to discourage you or make you lose hope but if you walk by sight, you will be moved by what your fleshly eyes see rather than trusting in God’s promises.

A spiritual man understands that faith is the substance of the things hoped for though not seen yet as Hebrews 11:1 wonderfully puts it which implies that someone who is spiritual won’t be moved by sight or external circumstances.

A person with a renewed mind of Jesus Christ will no longer dwell on carnal things of the flesh. Rather, they will now dwell on spiritual things that will aid their spiritual growth in the Lord.

This means that a spiritual man with the mind of Christ in them will no longer struggle with evil thoughts and imaginations which characterizes a carnal mind that hasn’t been converted or renewed by Christ.

If you are a spiritual person who is focused on the spiritual things Jesus Christ taught us in His Word, you will believe in the blessed hope of His return which Titus 2:13,14 talks about.

The return of our Lord Jesus Christ for his saints you and me who have been washed by His blood is the greatest hope a true believer has in this present evil world.

By having this blessed hope of the return of Jesus Christ at an appointed time, you will realize that this world isn’t your home and you are just passing by which sadly most people and carnal Christians act like it is.

7. Truly Born Again.

You can’t be spiritual and have the mind of Christ if you are not truly born again yet by the water and the spirit Jesus Christ talks about in John 3:3-8 which brings about the new spiritual birth.

This is because you need to be born again and have your inner man renewed by the Holy Spirit for you to be spiritual as we are born carnal with a sinful nature that inherently makes us only mind and cares about things of the flesh and not spiritual things.

But when you become born again and receive eternal life by believing and accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour, you experience a new birth which now makes you become a new creature 2 Corinthians 5:17 talks about.

Spiritual people who have the new birth of Christ will submit to God’s will and His word without any difficulty as they are no longer waking after the flesh but after the spirit.

James 4:7-10 tells us that we must submit ourselves to God and resist the devil who is after our precious soul which will be the case for spiritual people with the life of Christ in them.

But if you are a carnal person, you won’t submit to God at all as the sinful flesh of natural man hates submitting to God’s will which is against our fleshly desires.

Being filled with unconditional love for God and others is also a major characteristic of a spiritual person. This implies that you won’t love others or show goodness to others because of what you can get from them.

Instead, the agape love 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 talks about is what you will show to others. Sadly, most people including those who claim to be Christians only love others with superficial love especially if they are getting something from the person they claim to love.

In addition to loving others, you will also selfless love God with all your heart, your soul, your mind and all your might which is the first gelded rule God has given us (Mark 12:30).

10. Meek.

A spiritual person with the life of Christ radiating in them will possess meekness and gentleness which are one of the 9 essential fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22,23 talks about.

And this will be possible because of the new birth and new nature spiritual people experience when they become truly born again. All the natural pride that comes with the sinful nature natural man has will be no more when someone is truly saved.

Just as Jesus Christ was meek and humble which can be seen in His crucifixion, you will also be meek and gentle in spirit as well if you have His life in you and you won’t pamper or exalt yourself the way carnal people do who are without the life of Christ in them.

Spiritual people have active prayer lives to help them in their spiritual warfare as they know that they don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but their war is with principalities and spiritual forces of wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).

You can’t live a victorious spiritual life if you have a weak prayer life as you will be prone to Satan’s temptations which are everywhere like ants. Remember as a spiritual person, you are at spiritual warfare with the devil and his demons.

So, if you don’t pray as you should, you will be overcome by sin and live a defeated Christian life which is the main reason why many Christians today struggle with sin as their prayer lives are weak and leave much to be desired.

12. Knows The Truth.

With so many religions that claim to know the truth, it’s very difficult to know which one is telling the truth or not as all of them claim to be the only way to the truth and spiritual enlightenment.

But if you are a spiritual person with discernment, you will know that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life as He promised in John 14:6 and that there is no other truth besides Him. Implying that you will only accept Christ Jesus as the truth which He is.

In this age of spirituality, it’s easy to get deceived by false religions or gurus who claim their version of the truth and promise enlightenment which is why you need to be careful with who you listen to as there are many false Christ’s out there deceiving many people.

A spiritual person walks in godly wisdom found in Ephesians 5:15 because they know that without wisdom, their life will be wasted in foolishness and frustration.

And this wisdom found in a spiritual person who is a true Christian is the wisdom James 3:17 talks about with is pure and non-sensual which come from our Father of lights in heaven and produces true enlightened to the soul.

One thing you need to know dear is that there are two kinds of wisdom in this world. The first one is which is worldly, sensual and devilish which leads you away from God and the one which is pure from above and leads you to God. That latter is what you will have if you are saved.
