The biblical definition of false conversion is simply a kind of conversion that doesn’t reflect the life of Christ or bring about genuine salvation and a new life in Christ.

Implying that false conversion does not produce good fruits of repentance or righteousness that is only found in true conversion that comes after genuine repentance.

Therefore, false conversion doesn’t bring about the new birth and inward spiritual transformation which cause one to live a new life and forsake their old sinful lifestyle.

Below are the 7 major characteristics of a false convert that will help you know if someone is a false covert or not even if they hide under the veil of Christianity.

No Fruits Of The Spirit.

1. Lack Of True Repentance.

One of the major characteristics of false converts that will show that they are not true conversion is that they will lack genuine repentance in their lives.

If you are a false convert, you won’t be truly repentant of your old sinful lifestyle which is why you will go back to your vomit even after renouncing your sins a few minutes ago on the altar call.

True conversion is more than just saying you repent of your sins. You must also be willing to forsake them which can only happen if you are a true convert.

No wonder Proverbs 28:13 that only a person who truly confesses and forsakes their sins that will obtain mercy and that is what separates a true convert from a false covert, dear and this is what true conversion is all about.

But if you are a false convert, on the other hand, you won’t have this genuine repentance that brings salvation that will help you forsake your past sinful lifestyle once and for all.

Most people are not willing to forsake their sinful lifestyles due to the love of sin in their hearts but when true conversion happens in your life, you will be willing to forsake and live your past sinful life behind once and for all.

And this is the problem with many false converts today who lack true conversion in their lives. Usually, these people are repenting every Sunday but on Monday to Saturday, they are the worst sinner you can ever come across.

2. No Real Salvation.

False converts without any true conversion in their lives lack genuine salvation in their lives which explains why they are false converts in the first place.

Remember, genuine salvation is always accompanied by true conversion that makes one a true Christian and true covert with a new nature of Christ that salvation brings.

A person who is a false convert may claim to be saved and even go to church every Sunday but their lives reveal the opposite especially during weekdays as sin is still active in their lives.

They don’t have genuine salvation because they don’t understand that salvation isn’t a feeling but a definite experience that brings change and transformation in one’s life.

Sadly, even most people who claim to be Christians still lack genuine salvation experience in their lives which is dangerous indeed because it’s only genuine salvation found in Jesus Christ only that can save you from hellfire.

You must also remember if you are false convert that false conversion won’t lead you anywhere even if you go to church every Sunday because nothing inwardly has changed in your life which is why you still have the old unconverted sinful nature in you.

3. Lives In Perpetual Sin.

If you are a false convert, you will live in perpetual sin due to the love of sin that’s still present in your sinful unconverted heart due to the lack of genuine salvation.

And sadly, many people who claim to be Christians are still living in secret Perpetual sin be it addictions, sexual immorality, lying etc. and the reason they do that is that true conversion has not yet manifested in their lives.

To add fuel to the fire, most of these so-called Christians even justify their sinful lifestyles claiming that no one can live a holy life and be free from sin which is false indeed as 1 Peter 1:16 tells us to be holy as He who has called us is holy.

Paul in Acts 3:19-21 tells us that we must repent and be converted so that our sins can be blotted out by the blood of Jesus Christ that thoroughly cleanses us from all sins and filthiness of the flesh and spirit.

The conversion that is being talked about from the above scripture is the true conversion that brings about salvation and eternal life. It’s the conversion that makes one turn away from their sins to follow after righteousness.

However, if you are a false convert who is just religious practising empty religion without the life of Christ in you, you will live in perpetual sin because Jesus Christ isn’t yet reigning in your life.

4. Love False Teachings.

Jesus Christ warns in Matthews 24:11 in the last days just before His second coming that false teachers and false prophets will be on the increase and will deceive many.

And if you are a false convert and not a true Christian, you will love false teachings and false doctrines from false teachers that just make your sinful flesh feel good and comfortable in its sins.

You will hate the truth and sound bible doctrine that talks about sin and living a life of righteousness as you will find it offensive because your sinful flesh inherently loves sin and hates righteousness.

Many false converts nowadays prefer to be in churches where they don’t teach the truth or talk about sin as it will make them feel uncomfortable but prefer to be in churches that tell them what they want to hear.

This is why there are many fake Christians today who live a feelings-based Christianity that’s all about how they feel rather than living a holy life of self-denial that’s free from sin.

And this has been made worse by many false churches that exist nowadays that are unwilling to teach their congregation the truth for fear of losing them as they are only interested in making money which is unfortunate indeed.

No wonder Paul in 2 Timothy 4:3 says concerning such people with itching ears for the truth is that they won’t be able to endure sound doctrine but after their lusts will prefer to listen to false teaches that only teach them fables and how to have a good life now and not in eternity.

5. Hypocrites.

A person without true salvation in their life will usually live a hypocritical lifestyle and will just show up for Church of Sunday for formality.

And if you are a false convert without true conversion, you are just essentially a hypocrite like the Pharisees Jesu Christ talked about in Matthews 23:27 who only beautify themselves outwardly but are full of all manner of uncleanness on the inside.

It doesn’t matter how much you can pretend as long as genuine salvation is missing in your life, your hypocritical sinful lifestyle will manifest itself in due time because a bad tree cannot bring forth good fruits and vice versa (Matthews 7:17,18).

Many fake Christians today are living pretentious lifestyles that are full of all manner of sins due to the unregenerated sinful hearts that haven’t yet been transformed by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

Just know that you can’t be a true Christian who lives a life that’s above sin if you have not been transformed on the inside where the main problem of sin is, a problem all false coverts have or struggle with.

So, if you want to stop being a hypocrite who plays games with God, you need genuine conversion in your life that comes only with true repentance of your sins, ASAP.

Without that, you won’t be able to overcome sin and live godly but will resort to living a life of hypocrisy to hide your evil deeds.

6. Deserters.

When someone is a false convert or not a true believer without true Christian conversion, they will desert their Christian faith especially when things get hard on their Christian journey.

The Parable of the sower Jesus Christ taught in Mark 4:1-20 illustrates this better where it mentions four different types of soils that represent different types of hearts people have towards His word.

As you will notice in that parable when someone is a false covert, they will initially receive God’s word with joy and gladness but when storms of life come, they will give up their Christian faith which makes God’s word unfruitful in their lives.

In short, they desert their Christian faith because things are hard and I am sure you have witnessed such people throughout your Christian life who started of nicely but after a while, they give up their Christian faith altogether.

And there are many false converts today and I hope you are not one of them as you are reading this who have deserted the faith they once held on to so dear which is unfortunate indeed if you think about it for a moment.

These false converts desert their faith because they were not one of the Lord even if they pretended to as 1 John 2:19 wonderful puts it concerning such people that it might be made manifest they were not of us even if they walked with us.

If you are a backslider who has deserted your faith, I encourage you to return to Him before it’s too late because if you desert Christ now, he will also desert you on the last day.

7. No Fruits Of The Spirit.

If you are a false convert without genuine salvation that changes one from the inside, the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22,23 talks about will be nowhere to be seen in your life.

These fruit of the Holy Spirit can only show in your life if you have been truly born again with a new nature of Christ in you which will enable you to manifest these 9 fruits the Holy Spirit gives to all true converts and believers.

Instead, you will manifest the works of the flesh which are talked about in Galatians 5:19-21. Why? Well, this is because you don’t yet have the new nature of Christ that gets imparted to anyone that is a true covert after genuine repentance.

The fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:23,23 are very vital in the life of anyone who claims to be a believer as they are litmus test that separates true conversion from false conversion.

So, if some claim to be a true convert but without the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit found in the above-mentioned verse are merely deceiving themselves.

And there are many such false converts in churches today who claim to be Christians but live carnal and fleshly lives in line with their unconverted Adamic sinful fallen nature that makes them sin in the first place.

These people can’t manifest the fruits of the Spirit because they are not saved at all even if they claim to with their lips or go to church every Sunday.
