10 Major Reasons Why Is It Difficult To Live A Holy Life.

The Christian life is not easy. It’s a roller coaster of ups and downs, ins and outs, joy and sorrow. In this post, I will share 15 of the major reasons why it’s difficult to live a holy life.

At some point in your Christian life, you may have asked yourself this question as to why you find it hard to be holy as opposed to sinning.

This is the matter this article will address today as you will find out the 10 major reasons why it’s difficult to live a holy life and the possible remedy to this problem.

10 Reasons Why Living A Holy Life Is Difficult.

Below are the 10 major reasons why most people including many believers find it difficult to live a holy life and what you can do about it.

  • Sin.
  • Pride.
  • The Love Of Sin.
  • Love Of The World.
  • No Real Salvation Experience.
  • Our Sinful Nature.
  • The Devil.
  • Lack Of Grace.
  • Our Sinful Flesh.
  • False Doctrines.

1. Sin.

Sin is one of the major reasons why it’s difficult to live a holy life as sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Since light and darkness cannot mix, it, therefore, follows that sin and holiness can’t co-exist in one’s life. You are either one or the other.

Many people think that they can mix sin and holiness in their Christian life by being one foot in sin and the other in holiness but these people are merely deceiving themselves.

It’s just a matter of fact that we are all sinners by nature which is why living a holy life is difficult as our natural sinful flesh hates true holiness and loves to sin.

So, if you want to live a holy life that’s above sin, you need to get rid of sin in your life by repenting of your sins and asking Jesus Christ to forgive and cleanse you with His blood He shed on the cross.

2. Pride.

The sinful pride that natural man is born with is also another major reason why living a holy life is difficult as pride makes us resistant to God.

And this pride comes in many forms which is why most people think that their goodness will be enough for them to make it for heaven when the bible in the new testament in Romans 3:10 tells us that there is none righteous and none is good.

We also see in the old testament in Isaiah 64:6 which tells us that we are all as an unclean thing and all our righteousness and good works are as filthy rags as they have hidden selfish motives.

When you tell such people that being a good person isn’t enough to grant you eternal life that only the Lord Jesus Christ can grant you which is the getaway top heaven, they will tell that they don’t need Jesus Christ as they will do it their way which is sad indeed.

3. The Love Of Sin.

Another reason why it’s difficult to live a holy life is the love of sin in many people’s lives including many so-called believers in the church today who only look holy on Sunday but are the worst sinner you can ever encounter during weekdays.

Many people simply love their sin and filthiness which is why you will hear such people say that it’s not possible to live a holy life as we are all sinners when 1 Peter 1:16 tells us we must be holy as He’s holy.

Remember, God cannot ask something from us the He knows we can’t do and the fact that He asks us to be holy, He knows that with His grace in our lives, living a life of holiness is possible.

So, don’t listen to anyone telling you that you can’t live a holy life as that’s a lie from Satan who knows that without holiness, none will enter heaven and see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). This is why he wants you to be comfortable in your sins until it’s too late.

4. Love Of The World.

The love of the world and the things that are in this world is also another reason why many people find it difficult to live a holy life that pleases and glorifies our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:15 tells us that if we are true believers, we must not love the world and the things that are in this world and if you do so, it clearly shows that the love of the Father is not in you at all.

You can’t live a life of holiness and righteousness that pleases our Lord Jesus Christ if the love of the world is present in your Christian life which is a major issue in many Christians today.

Today, it’s difficult to differentiate Christians and worldly people because of the worldliness that is present in the hearts of many Christians who just look or dress like the people of the world.

5. No Real Salvation Experience.

The lack of genuine salvation is the top reason why many people find it hard to live a holy life that’s above sin. Living holy and righteous isn’t possible if genuine salvation is lacking in your life.

The reason for this is that it’s genuine salvation that brings about eternal life and the new birth that enables a truly repentant sinner to live a holy Christian life.

And if this real salvation experience is missing in your life, forget about living a holy life as you won’t have the new nature of Christ Jesus that comes when you truly become saved.

This is why Jesus Christ said in John 3:3 that you need to be born again if you want to enter heaven which is only possible if God’s holiness is in you which is imparted to you when you become truly saved and born again with the new nature.

6. Our Sinful Nature.

One of the primary reasons why it is difficult to live a holy life is because of our sinful nature. As soon as we are born, we have this inclination to rebel against God and His ways.

In Romans 8:7,8, the Apostle Paul says that the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile toward God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, nor can it do so. All of us have this sinful nature from birth (Psalm 51:5).

The Bible calls this sinful nature our flesh which includes not only our physical bodies but also our whole being: our minds, wills, and emotions as well.

And it’s this sinful nature we are all born with we inherited from our first parents who sinned in Genesis 3:1-24 that makes us naturally inclined to sin and do evil things. Except your sinful nature is dealt with by Christ Jesus on the cross through repentance, you can forget about being holy.

7. The Devil.

The devil is also one of the biggest culprits why it’s difficult to live a holy life that pleases the Lord and later on enable you to make it for heaven when you die so that you can be with the Lord Jesus Christ in glory for all eternity.

Satan’s main strategy against believers is to tempt them into sin via diverse temptations which come in various forms such as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life 1 John 2:16 talks about which is the major point of weakness in many Christians.

The devil will see to it that you don’t live a life of holiness and righteousness by all means by making you believe that you can’t live a holy life and that we are all sinners which is partly true.

You must not listen to Satan’s lies who will try to tell you that you can’t be holy and righteous in this present evil world because God said you can by His grace.

8. Lack Of Grace.

The lack of the grace Titus 2:11,12 talks about which brings salvation and has appeared to everyone is another reason why many people struggle to live godly in this present evil world.

One thing you need to know dear is that you can’t be holy and righteous by your own human strength because of the sinful nature you are born with that is inclined to sin.

Our Adamic sinful nature is the reason why we find it difficult to live a godly life and easy to live a life of sin because sin is innate in all of us.

So, if you want to start being a holy person, you need to ask for the grace of the Lord to help you be a holy believer who will live a life that’s in obedience to God.

9. Our Sinful Flesh.

Our sinful flesh is both the earthly, temporal body and our human nature that is corrupted by sin. Our spirit at war with the flesh and Paul exhorts us to put to death the deeds of the body (Romans 8:13).

The flesh can dominate us and make it difficult for us to live a holy life if we are walking after its desires and not walking after the Spirit. This is why you must endeavour to walk after the Spirit and not the flesh if you want to be a holy person.

We are told in Galatians 5:17 that the flesh is always at war with our spirit and always wants us to do things that are contrary to God’s word.

And unless your sinful flesh is crucified with Christ Jesus on the cross along with its sinful passions and desires, you won’t be able to be the holy person the Lord Jesus Christ has called you to be.

10. False Doctrines.

Last but not least, false doctrines and false teaching coming out of the pulpits of false churches are one of the main obstacles that are hindering many from living a holy life that attracts God’s glory.

Many false churches will tell you that no one can live a holy life because we are all sinners which are partly true but forget that God also tells us to be holy just as He is in Leviticus 20:26 in the old testament.

And people who listen to such false teachings from false teachers who tell them that they can’t be holy will see no reason to even try to do so as they are comfortable in their sins because they have been told that being holy isn’t possible.

It’s these false teachings that have made sin rampant even among people who claim to be Christians because of what they have been meant to believe that they can’t overcome sin which is possible by the way through prayer and God’s grace.

Conclusion.

I hope the above 10 reasons as to why is it difficult to live a holy life will help you understand why many people including Christians struggle to be holy or find it impossible to do so.
