How To Know If You Are Saved By Jesus {For Sure?}

How to know if you are saved by Jesus? I am sure you have asked yourself this question before at one point in your life and this is what this post will discuss today.

There are many ways you can know if you are truly saved or not and are on your way to heaven. Many bible verses in both the Old Testament and the New Testament tell us there are many ways you can know if you are saved for sure.

Knowing if you have genuine salvation that brings eternal life is crucial in your Christian life as a true believer as that will help you where you stand and whether you are on your way to heaven or not.

With that said, let’s look at today’s question,” how to know if you are saved by Jesus for sure?” To help you know if you have genuine salvation or not.

5 Ways To Know If You Are Truly Saved.

Below are the ways that will help you know if you have genuine salvation and eternal life found in Christ Jesus or not that comes by grace through faith.

  • New Life.
  • You’ll Have The Assurance Of Salvation.
  • You Will Bear The Fruits Of The Spirit.
  • You Won’t Desire Sin Anymore.
  • You Will Start living A Holy Life.

1. New Life.

One of the things that will help you know that you have a genuine salvation experience and are truly saved or not is that you will have a new life that 2 Corinthians 5:17 talks about.

The apostle Paul tells us in the above bible verse that if any person is in Christ Jesus, that person becomes a new creation and that old things are passed away and all things become new.

Implying that you will have a new life that is now characterized by holiness and righteousness that will mirror the character of our Lord Jesus Christ who has called us unto the highway of holiness.

No longer will you live your old life of sin nor will you desire to commit the old sins you once committed and loved in your old sinful life when you were an unconverted sinner.

2. You’ll Have The Assurance Of Salvation.

The second thing that will help you know whether you are truly saved by Jesus Christ or not is that you will have this assurance of salvation Romans 8:16 talks about that will assure you that you are truly saved and are a child of God.

In the above bible verse, we are told that if you are truly saved and have a definite and genuine salvation experience in your life, God’s Holy Spirit will bear witness with you that you are indeed God’s child on your way to heaven.

On the other hand, if you are not genuinely saved and are yet to have a genuine salvation experience in your life yet, this witness of the Holy Spirit to confirm you are God’s child en route to heaven will simply be absent in your life.

God’s Holy Spirit is the one that gives the assurance of salvation and if you are still a sinner who’s not genuinely saved yet, you won’t have this assurance that you are truly saved as God’s Spirit to confirm you are saved will be absent in your life.

3. You Will Bear The Fruits Of The Spirit.

Another sign that will help you know you are a true Christian whose saved by Jesus is you will produce all the 9 fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22,23 talks about that all truly born-again Christians and believers have.

Having the 9 fruits of the Spirit the above verse talks about is crucial as it’s one of the litmus tests that will show if you are truly saved or not with the new nature of Christ Jesus in you that enables you to produce these good fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Otherwise, if you are not genuinely saved yet, these 9 fruits of the Spirit will be nowhere to be seen in your life. Instead, the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21 talk about will what will be manifesting in your life.

This will be because you still have the sinful nature active in you making you produce such evil fruits and the new nature of Christ that only comes when you become genuinely saved is yet to be imparted to you.

4. You Won’t Desire Sin Anymore.

If you are truly saved, you will also no longer desire to sin anymore or to go back to the former sinful lifestyle you once lived because you have the new nature of Christ in you that makes you hate sin and love righteousness instead.

You can’t say that you are truly saved if you are still living in sin which just brings death and eternal separation from God in hell (Romans 6:23).

A person who’s truly born again won’t desire sin anymore because the sinful nature that was present in that person from birth has been removed and replaced with the new nature of Christ Jesus that’s holy and righteous.

When you become a genuine Christian after coming to the genuine saving faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, you just won’t find sin attractive anymore. All the sins you loved to commit will now be detestable when you become genuinely born again.

5. You Will Start Living A Holy Life.

Last but not least, another thing that will make you know for sure that you are genuinely saved is that you will now start living a life of holiness and righteousness that’s above sin.

You need to understand that all believers who profess to be followers of Christ Jesus have been called to a highway of holiness and righteousness. So, if you claim to be saved, you will live a holy life.

God’s word in 1 Peter 1:16 tells us that we need to be holy even as the One who’s called us to holiness is Himself holy with no sin in Him. But you may say, that it’s hard to be holy and avoid sin.

Yes, that will be the case if you are not genuinely saved yet. If you are genuinely saved, you won’t find living a holy life difficult as you have the new nature of Christ and God’s grace in you that makes you want to be holy and shun sin.
