12 Characteristics Of A Truly Sanctified Life.

  • Holiness.
  • Exhibits The 9 Fruits Of The Spirit.
  • A Sanctified Life Has Christ-Like Love.
  • Total Submission To God.
  • Loves God Wholeheartedly.
  • Selflessly Serve God.
  • A Sanctified Life Glorifies God.
  • Has A New Heart.
  • Has A New Spirit.
  • Walks After The Spirit.
  • A Sanctified Life Has Genuine Salvation.
  • A Sanctified Life Has Self Crucified.

1. Holiness.

A life that is sanctified is holy and righteous. If you are a sanctified person whose been washed by the sanctifying power of the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, you will live a life of holiness that’s free from sin.

God’s word tells us in 1 Peter 1:16 that we need to be holy even as God who has called us to holiness and righteousness is holy. Holiness is crucial in your life as a believer as without it, you can’t make heaven (Hebrews 12:14).

If you lack sanctification, you will find it difficult to live a holy life as the old Adamic nature of sin that makes you sin easily that Ephesians 4:22 talks about are still active in your life. It will explain why you struggle with certain sins in your life.

2. Exhibits The 9 Fruits Of The Spirit.

A sanctified life will also manifest all the 9 essential fruits of the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22,23. One of the important fruits of the Spirit you will show is gentleness and meekness in spirit.

If you are a sanctified person, you will be humble and gentle as you are no longer walking after the flesh but after the Spirit that enables you to have these fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Moreover, if you are not yet sanctified, some of these 9 essential fruits of the Holy Spirit the above verse talks about such as patience, and humility of heart will be lacking in your life.

3. A Sanctified Life Has Christ-Like Love.

Another important characteristic of a sanctified spirit-filled life is that it will exhibit the pure Christ-like agape love that 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 talks about which is selfless and sacrificial.

You need to understand that you can never truly love others the way our Lord Jesus Christ expects you if you are not sanctified as you will still have the inherently selfish nature we are all born with that makes us self-centered.

If you are unsanctified, you will not selflessly or sacrificially love others but you will only love others if they have something to benefit you. However, if you are sanctified, you will truly love others selflessly without expecting anything in return.

4. Total Submission To God.

If you are a believer that has undergone sanctification in your Christian life, you will find it easy to live a life of obedience that’s in total submission to God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

James 4:7 tells us that we need to submit to God and resist the devil so that he can flee from us. Implying that you will no longer allow self-will to govern your life but you will allow yourself to be controlled and directed by God’s word.

However, if sanctification is lacking in your life, you will find it hard to submit to God as your Adamic self-will that naturally makes you want to do things your own way and not submit to God is still active in your life and hasn’t yet been dealt with.

5. Loves God Wholeheartedly.

If you are a sanctified Christian, you will also love God with all your heart, soul, might, strength and mind without any ulterior motives as Luke 10:27 commands us to do.

Loving God with all our hearts is the greatest golden rule God has given and commanded us to do but that can only be possible if you have undergone sanctification and have been filled with God’s grace.

Nevertheless, if sanctification is lacking in your life, you won’t love God the way you ought to with all your heart which will explain why you are not willing to give all your best and what you have to Him.

6. Selflessly Serve God.

The other important characteristic that you show your life is sanctified is that you will willingly and selflessly serve the Lord with joy without any murmurings or grumblings.

The apostle Paul tells us in Colossians 3:23,24 that we must serve God with all our hearts and give our all to Him which will only be the case if our hearts have been sanctified.

If you aren’t a sanctified person, you won’t serve the Lord selflessly with joy and a loving heart as you will find it a burden to you. It will explain why you will find church work boring and unrewarding to you compared to what the world has to offer.

7. A Sanctified Life Glorifies God.

Another trait that you will show if you are a sanctified person is that you are going to live a life that brings glory to the Lord and not to yourself. It means that you won’t seek to please yourself or others but the Lord only.

1 Peter 2:12 tells us that we need to live honorably and live lives that bring honor and glory to the Lord by the good works we do.

Implying that you must not live a sinful hypocritical life that will bring shame to God that even makes unbelievers wonder if you are even a Christian at all who professes the Christian faith.

8. Has A New Heart.

If you have undergone sanctification, you will also have a new heart that has new desires that are holy and righteous that the Lord promises in Ezekiel 36:26.

It’s this new heart the Lord gives you that will enable you to love God with all your heart as well as easily submit to His will as that stony heart that makes you disobedient to God has been done away with.

Having a new heart that is obedient to God is one of the major reasons why sanctification is essential in your Christian life. Without it, your heart will be stubborn, prideful, and disobedient to the Lord.

9. Has A New Spirit.

In the same Ezekiel 36:26, the Lord also promises us that He will give us a new spirit which happens when we get sanctified and sanctify ourselves from anything that defiles us with sin.

The new spirit the Lord gives you will make you a gentle and humble person who’s filled with humility. You will also no longer have a proud and haughty spirit that characterizes unsanctified people if you become sanctified by the blood.

Without sanctification, you won’t have this new spirit of Christ in you that makes you meek, humble, obedient to God, not easily angered, and gentle towards others in love just as Christ is.

10. Walks After The Spirit.

Another characteristic of a sanctified person with a sanctified life is that they walk after the Spirit and no longer walk after the flesh fulfilling its sinful desires as Galatians 5:16 commands.

Sanctified people can walk after the Spirit because they have the new spirit and new nature of Christ in them that enables them to deny the works of the flesh Galatians 5:19-21, which characterized unsanctified people.

If you are not sanctified, you won’t be able to walk after the Spirit because your sinful flesh is opposed to the things of the Spirit and only desires to fulfill its sinful desires and pleasures.

11. A Sanctified Life Has Genuine Salvation.

A sanctified life also has genuine salvation as you can’t be sanctified before you become saved first. Salvation is essential in every person as it’s what saves one from sin and paves a way for sanctification to happen.

To be sanctified as a person, you first need to be saved from sin which is only possible with the salvation Jesus Christ has made possible to all of us by dying for our sins on the cross (Romans 6:10).

If you are not yet saved, you won’t be able to have sanctification because the power of sin is still active in your life, and are still under its curse. Sanctification is only for people who are genuinely saved and have given their lives to Jesus Christ to live anew.

12. A Sanctified Life Has Self Crucified.

Last and not least, if you have been sanctified and are now living a life that is filled with grace, you will also crucify yourself daily on the cross as the apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 2:20.

Implying that, you will no longer live for yourself or your selfish ambitions but for Christ only who died for you as He’s now in charge of your life and directing it now.

You need to understand that if you have not crucified yourself, you won’t be able to live for Christ due to the conflicts of interest that will exist between what your sinful self wants and what Christ wants which are eternally opposed to each other.
