When we struggle with sin, we struggle with spiritual growth and can often find ourselves lost in the darkness. God wants us to be free from sin so that He can draw us close to Him, which is why purity is so important.

Living a pure life is not about being perfect but about being able to abstain from sin and anything that defiles you such as immoral T.V shows that promote sexual immorality and stir lustful sinful desires in your heart to sin (1 Thessalonians 5:22-25).

1. Abstain From All Evil Appearances.

If you want to live a life of purity that’s undefiled from the evil and sin of this world, you need to abstain from all appearances of evil as 1 Thessalonians 5:22 in the new testament tells us to do.

These evil appearances you need to abstain from are everywhere now. The most common evil appearances you need to abstain from are evil T.V shows common on major T.V stations that promote sexual immorality and promiscuity many young people nowadays are hooked to.

Secondly, other evil appearances you need to abstain from are those on dirty websites on the internet where pornography can be accessed easily.

Sadly, most people including believers have a hard time abstaining from all these evil appearances that are out there on the internet, which explains why most struggle with all manner of sins in their lives such as sexual sin or addiction to pornography.

However, if you want to live a life of purity, dear saint of the Lord Jesus Christ who’s called you to holiness, not uncleanness, you need to make a deliberate effort on your part to abstain from these evil contemporary vices that have defiled many.

2. Embrace Godly Chastity.

Another thing you need to do if you want to live a life of purity that’s not contaminated by sin, you need to embrace godly Chasity which will help you maintain sexual purity and abstain from sexual immorality destroying many young people’s lives.

Godly chastity simply means practicing a life of sexual purity by abstaining from all sexual relations with the opposite sex if you are not married as 1 Corinthians 6:18 encourages every believer in Christ Jesus to do.

The reason why most Christians struggle with sexual sin and sexual purity is that they lack Chasity in their lives which is why most indulge in sexual immorality through illicit immoral relationships between the opposite sex which have now become commonplace even in the church today.

But if you are a true believer who wants to maintain your sexual purity, you need to embrace godly chastity in your life by abstaining from premarital sex even when others are doing it. You also need to avoid immoral girlfriend and boyfriend relationships causing you to sin.

Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 2:22 that we must flee all youthful lusts that make us fall into sin, especially that of sexual immorality, and choose to pursue righteousness instead. Sadly, most people including many so-called Christians don’t do that.

3. Pray For Sanctification.

Sanctification is very important in the life of any believer who wants to live a life of purity as it takes care of our sinful Adamic nature that naturally causes us to sin and lust after sin in the first place.

By definition, sanctification simply means to make holy or to be set apart for God’s purpose. It also means the removal of the sinful Adamic nature we are all born with that cause us to sin easily with the help of the Holy Spirit.

If you are to live a life of consistent purity, you need to have your heart sanctified which is why the Lord tells us in Leviticus 20:7 in the old testament that we need to sanctify ourselves so that we can be holy as the Lord who’s called us is holy.

Moreover, if sanctification is lacking in your life, you will find it difficult to live a life of purity as the Adamic nature of sin you were born with is still active in your life making it difficult for you to be holy and abstain from sin.

You need to pray for sanctification in your life so that you can have a pure heart that will make it easy for you to abstain from any habitual sin that’s hindering you from living a life of purity that’s undefiled by sin.

4. Pray For Grace To Live Godly.

The other thing that will help you live a pure life of holiness is you need to pray for god’s grace to live a godly life that’s above sin as you can’t be godly in your own power due to your fallen nature.

God’s word in Titus 2:11 tells us that God’s grace that brings salvation and eternal life has appeared to everyone which teaches one to deny all forms of ungodliness and worldly lusts of this world.

It’s this grace the above bible verse talks about that will enable you to live godly and soberly in this present evil world so that you can be ready for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Without this grace, you won’t be able to live a life of purity and holiness because you won’t have the power to overcome your sinful flesh making you fulfill its lustful desires.

5. Read God’s Word Daily.

Another thing you need to do if you want to maintain a Christian life of holiness and godliness, which is profitable unto all things as 1 Timothy 4:8 tells is you need to read God’s Word daily.

Reading the Bible daily will help you be established in the Lord and help you not sin against you as His word which acts as a lamp to your feet is there to keep you from stumbling. God’s word also purifies your heart that is why you need to read it daily.

Unfortunately, not many Christians practice a daily habit of reading God’s word daily as they are lazy spiritually but find patently of time to be on social media reading useless things which won’t even help them grow spiritually.

But if you are to live a life of godliness and holiness free from the impurity sin causes, you need to read God’s word daily during your quiet time which will help you establish your Christian faith and help you fend off Satan’s temptations he brings your way.

No wonder the psalmist, David in the Old Testament tells us in Psalms 119:11 that he hid God’s word in his heart so that he doesn’t sin against the Lord. You as well need to hide God’s word in your heart so that you don’t fall into sin and get defiled by it

6. Renew Your Mind.

Having a renewed mind that’s renewed by the Holy Spirit that has pure thoughts only and is free from the evil thoughts of the flesh is another thing you must do to live a life of purity.

Romans 12:2 tells us that we need to transform our lives by renewing our minds through Christ. Having a Christ-like mind that has been renewed by the Holy Spirit will help you not entertain evil thoughts in your mind.

One of the reasons why many struggle with evil thoughts that are immoral in their minds is that their minds have not yet been renewed by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, which explains why most struggle with dirty lustful thoughts.

You must understand that if Jesus Christ has not yet renewed your carnal sinful mind, you will struggle with evil thoughts that are defiling your mind. Remember, sin starts with evil thoughts before its fully birthed.

So, if you are struggling with carnal evil thoughts be it those of sexual immorality or lust, you need to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to renew your mind through His Spirit so that you no longer struggle with evil thoughts that are defiling your mind.

7. Be Truly Born Again.

Finally, yet importantly, you need to be truly born again with the new birth experience of Christ if you are to live a life of purity that’s free from the moral perversions and evil pollutions of this world.

If you are not born again yet, the above 6 things I earlier mentioned that you must do if you want to live a life of purity will not be possible, no matter how hard you try because the old nature of sin causing you to sin hasn’t been dealt with yet.

Being born again is what will enable you to have the new nature of Christ in you, which enables you to live a life of holiness and righteousness when you experience the new birth in Christ.

We are all born with a sinful nature as Romans 5:12-21 tells us because sin was passed to us from our first parents who first sinned in the Garden of Eden. This explains why we are all born spiritually dead.

But when you become born again, you become alive in Christ as Paul tells us in Romans 6:11, and inherit a new nature of Christ that helps you live a life of purity as the old sinful nature that made you sin gets replaced with this new nature that’s holy and righteous.
